I think you will find it's only cars with a high end BCM (ie. Calais, Statesman, Senator) that turn the headlights off - usually after 90 secs or so. In any case I don't think the headlights will 't turn off if you have the door open.

You may find the upper level BCMs allow the off time to be programmed. ie. Headlights turn off a short time after getting out of the car.

The lower level BCMs turn the headlights off as soon as the drivers door is opened with the ignition off.

Check your dirvers door switch is working correctly. Does the interior light turn on when the door is opened?

There is a little switch slightly to the right of the steering wheel. Make sure that is turned all the way anticlockwise and try again.

Did they used to turn off?

    On VR-S Berlina and above:

    Turn on parkers
    Turn on ignition
Hold dimmer switch in the dim position
    Turn ignition off
    Open drivers door
Wait desired delay time (max 3mins)
Release dimmer switch (park lights should go out)

Not sure if VN-P has this or how to set it.
