Hope someone can help me out
I changed the tensioner assemby today and the heater pipe that goes into the side of inlet keeps leaking even though i put a new o ring.
Is there any trick to this or has anyone had a similar problem
By the way i put a new oring and used petroleum jelly
Where'd you get the o ring from? Definately the correct size? i.e it needs to be a snug fit on both the heater pipe and where it fits into the inlet manifold. Using a little petroleum jelly is correct but did you also ensure where the o ring will be seating is thoroughly clean and no corrosion dust ect that could prevent a perfect seal? Even any coolant sludge could do this. How did you insert the heater rod? The best way to do it is to first loosely install the alternator with tensioner attached. Then feed the heater pipe behind the tensioner arm and locate it into the hole in the manifold. Make sure you locate the bracket on the pipe to go over the threaded stud as this will make sure you dont push the pipe too far into the manifold. If you do push it in to far and it pops through, often when you pull it back a bit to where it should be it can dislodge the o ring or tear it a little. Then tighten up the two threaded studs, reconnect your earth wire with the lock nut and also the small 10mm bolt on the alternator top bracket.
Hope that helps.
Clean the manifold where the pipe fits in .Use some fine wet and dry and some dish washing lquid to get rid of the build up of scale in the opening then flush it out to get rid of the crap. Use the genuine Holden O ring not a Bunnings one especially if it is the red colored one as the profile is different . I covered the end of the heater pipe and O ring with dish washing liquid before fitting .
