Diff gears and speedo

OK so I have searched and have found nothing that can help me. In the next month I will be getting diff gears put in the VR. I have already decided I will go with 3.9's as I do no highway driving. So obviously my speedo will be way off. Now I can get a speedo corrector kit fitted up etc. how ever I also noticed people discussing swapping the speedo gear for something out of a R31 that came with it from factory. How ever all threads I have seen haven't gone further into discussing if it is indeed a viable option. Are the cogs from both speedo sensors the same and is it as easy as pulling the VR sensor out and swapping the cogs?

Also the VSS Ratio can be changed in the memcal.

Yeah I know about the Jaycar kit how ever I was trying to avoid slicing into the wiring harness and having a box sitting there thus why I asked if I could just swap cogs over.
