Hey fellas.
I'm really keen on putting some new seats into my 99' VS Ute after i paint my SS front bar, money is hard to come buy when your studying haha.
I have been to autobarn and what not and had a look around and i can get some half decent autotencia ones for like 300 bucks a set on sale.
They always come up cheap so i'm pretty happy on price.
Anywhom, my querie is do i need an engineering certificate when i swap the seats over?
I'm pretty sure the seats aren't exactly a universal fit so the rails might have to be modded?
Any help appreciated fellas.
Is it currently bench or bucket?

Yes I know, if you get anymore manly you are in danger of making yourself pregnant!
so i guess no one has any answers?
i had a look around at some people who had them and i think an engineers certificate is the go.
anyone have any experience with places to do this in the melb area or rough prices?
Hey mate, to be safe id get the engineers certificate, however from memory the seats from autobahn have the mounting rails in the boxes.
you should be alright but as everyone says if its not adr approved blah blah you know the rest. In wa i had buckets in my vs maloo just needed new mounting brackets and was all good.
My understanding is that you have buy the seats and then you buy the rails to suit so VN-VS rails. Down the bottom ---> AutotecnicA.com.au » Seats, Race Seat, Monza Seat, Racing Seat
The way i see it is that its not structully changing it in anyway. Your simply putting a different rail in to the stock mount so the points in whicht he seat is mounted wont change. As long as the Seat is ADR approved it will say it on the seat somewhere its all sweet. Any time im doing modifications i look at this but it says nothing about seats in particular http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/NR/rd...340/0/VSI8.pdf
so a little more looking
Replacement Seats
Seats supplied as an option by the vehicle manufacturer
may be fitted. A VASS approval certificate is not required
for this type of seat replacement provided;
The seat is one supplied by the vehicle manufacturer as
an option for that vehicle and is actually replacing an
existing seat.
The original seat mountings are used, and
Appropriate seat belts are fitted
from vic roads

i had a squizz too, cheers for digging around mate.
so pretty much what it's saying is i will need a certificate because the seats i want to put in are aftermarket and not factory options.
also because i plan on changing the rails?
i wonder if i just changed the seats to actual holden ones it would be different.
i dont think you will. with that universal rail it slides into the holden one which is bolted to the floor so it 'should' be ok because the original mountings are being used
i hope that's the case, will make it a lot more easier on the pocket.
you have been a huge help Jonnii, thanks mate.
i'll go down to autobarn when i get some cash rounded up and i'll talk to them, most of them don't know shit anyway so i'll probs be at the same point i was now.
i'll probs end up doing it haha. cheers bud.
just thought you would like to know Jonnii.
went down to autobarn today, they we're suprisingly quite helpful.
they told me that as it's an after market seat and in turn an after market modification i would require an engineers certificate.
