From your description, you appear to be trying to remove the ABS modulator, not the ABS module which is located behind the drivers kick panel.

There is a separate ABS Computer? or is this the BCM we're talking about?

The ABS module (not the BCM) is the device that issues commands to the ABS modulator and is located in the drivers compartment as previously mentioned - from the sound of it you are removing the wrong part....if your ABS light is on, you should first check that all the ABS wiring is in place and not damaged. Also check the individual connectors to each wheel are plugged in at each wheel - it's not uncommon for them to get dislodged. Another item that gives trouble is the connector to the ABS modulator which is in the engine compartment and the one you have been trying to remove. Water can get into the connector and corrode the connectors - to check simply remove the connector and inspect.
The ABS module that you want to replace will rarely fail........
There is a "how to" on checking for ABS fault codes in that section and if you perform that check (very easy) it 'may' tell you exactly what is wrong.

EDIT: here is the ABS fault code test - please do this as I'd hate to see someone kill themselves because their brakes failed. ABS Error Codes
