Hi guys, i have a problem with my VR radiator. Yesterday i was coming back home when decided to take a shortcut through queens lane melb. was at 40 when an idiot pulled out his car from parking right infront of me. i avoided him and hit the rightside curb. anyways i checked the bottom of the car cause i heard it hit the road and saw some water but thought its fine and let that d**k go. but then on the way home the temp gauge kept going up down the whole way. i thought if i leave like this it may be alright in the morning. checked today and found a leak on a pipe near a clamp at the engine end. pics are there. Please help me with this problem. What should i do. i tried tightning the bolt but the leak still there
depends what ur money situation is like...last week i actully cracked and snapped the inlet where the hose clamps onto as on a vs its plastic so i would check to make sure thats not cracked. if not and all good. id go buy some coolant flush. good coolant i use the tec alloy gold. follow the radiator coolant flush directions on the bottle. go get yaself some new radiator hoses and clamps and heater hoses. mabie a heater tap......does sound a little over board but we are in for a hot summer. those clamps look pretty average and the hoses look genuine. unless itshad new genuine hoses in the past. your cooling system only needs a weak link and you will be stuck.....and i have never broken down in traffic on a stinkin hot day..and really i dont want to either lol so safe guard your self for the hot weather ahead.
i did all the above last week. as i needed a new radiator. i used a vr v8 brass/copper 3 core radiator. mega over board. least i know it wont let go during summer
thanks for the response guys. Money wont be a problem but time is. cant take it to my mechanic as i need the car for work. but i would buy the hoses and the coolant. Question is can i change them by myself or i should be better off taking it to the mechanic?
thanks again
mate. 5 min job litterly. kinda thing u could do after tea and have done pretty much before its too dark to see.
thats to change hoses. flush etc will take longer..
ok thanks mate. im off to buy the things mentioned above. the coolant flush will have the instructions written on it right or should i find a how-to on here.
Easy... follow directions on flush bottle. if it says idle for 20 min.. or what not. try drive it for 20 min just cruise around close to home. once u have done that unless your confident in removing radiator cap while hot.leave too cool.remove radiator hoses from engine dont remove from radiator yet. but only after you have removed radiator cap to release pressure in the system. then get some kinda high pressure trigger hose etc for ya garden hose. then shove it in the ends of the hoses you have removed so water flushes threw radiator. put in the top where the cap goes and in both hoses do it threw all 3 ends for a while till all water is totally clean and no rusty bits or much is flowing from the clean water. then u should flush the engine but not while its hot. remove overflow bottle flush that out best as u can with the hose and mabie a brush of some kind if u can get it in there. connect it all back up. fill radiator with coolant then also fill your over flow with a coolant/water mix. fill radiator with water then once full start engine turn the heater on flat out keep filling untill full. replace cap then check in a few hours and top radiator up
Where the hell did the idea of flushing it come in?
That drip looks pretty green to me.
Just replace the hose thats leaking. Catch the coolant you spill in a bucket and pour it back in the top of the radiator, then run it up to temp with the bleed screw out to get the bubbles out.
Ive had cooling issues over the years which i dont let arise anymore. fair enough it might not need to be done.......for the sake of the money its costs it has more gain than loss..seein as he has to drain it anyway to replace the hose..why bother puttin the old crappy coolant in for the sake of 15 bucks worth of coolant. seein as it has new coolant may aswell make sure its clean or atleast some what attempt to clean it....summers coming up soon may aswell safeguard yaself
