Question Injectors or fuel pump please help..

    Hi there,
My automatic VR wagon is having some problems running, its like its not getting enough fuel. To get it started you have to hold the throttle on or it dies, the revs drop right down and it stalls. It has issues with take off and you feel the power drop in and out at certain speeds. I have changed the fuel filter and still no improvement. Any suggestions, as I want to try fix it this week.

i'd guess the pump. can you hear the pump straining ? assuming its an electric pump.
Does it begin to drop out more at high revs ?

Pumps either work or they don't. I'd do a fault code check and see what that throws up: Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised) Another priority would be to clean the throttle body and the idle air control (see the how-to section) as they both control idle speed. How are plugs and leads?
Injectors may be dirty but to replace costs a few dollars so I'd leave that till last although maybe a can of injector cleaner may not go astray. Also check the fuel pressure regulator - pull the vacuum hose off the regulator and check that there is no fuel in it - if so it means the diaphragm in the reg is busted.

hmmm , the pump in my VS died a slow death including surgeing / dieing at high revs, constant noise etc etc, and this was after 200000 + k's.
Servo round the corner changed it and problems all solved.
Whatever works for you i guess.

Fault codes show slipping transmition and vaccuum leak which showed up last week when the car conked out on me last week whilst on a roundabout. IAC cleaned last month so was throttle body. Plugs were replaced at the same time, leads replaced last week. Will check the fuel pressure regulator. Is there any way to check the injectors for blockage?

There are a few tricks to test injectors im no expert on them, but, with engine idling pull the power lead off each injector one at a time. listen to the engine, if it dies that injector is ok, plug it back in and try the next one, if you find 1 cylinder where it makes no difference when you unplug the injector then that injector aint working.

Today our vr started to loose power and shudder like if its not firing properly, this was under power going up hill, it doesn't stall while idling but when i put the car away its like there is nothing wrong, its kind of wierd, so all temps are fine plenty of fuel no management lights came on, just seems just to do it under power or hill climbing, this was just the last 5 mins of driving when the issue happened..

Resolved buy just replacing a failed coil pack (3/6) but replaced all of them... seems to of resolved the miss whilist at trafic lights or stopped in drv, the miss could be a symtom of a coil pack to fail in the close future or with in 12months..
