I have been reading up on a Supercharger for my 3.8 Ecotrec VS. I have done a lot of reading on how they work and boost the cars performance, But i am Still abit confused to as what else i need to change on the engine for it all to work. Can anyone help me out?
Thanks in advance![]()
You need to provide what you already know!
Or do a search on this forum and find the answer!!
I no i want a Centralfugal supercharger, i no it performs better with a intercooler. I no how it works, i just dont no the parts needed, i beleive i need to strengthen a part of the engine after a certain amount of PSI but thats the main part thats got me, and cant find much around except a few with 4.2litre engines.
Your V6 should handle boost up to 8PSI without problems. If you buy a centrifugal kit off a supplier like CAPA, it normally comes with everything you need to put it on, and they can help with installation or advice (normally for a price though).
This part of the engine you're talking about is really the engine as a whole, you need to properly rebuild the whole thing stronger if you're going to pump heaps of boost into it. Also I find this is the first thing all young guys want to do to their car is stick a supercharger on it straight away. Really when you stop, plan and think about all the costs etc... its a complete waste of time doing it to a VS V6. Save the $9000 odd it'll cost to put a supercharger on, and buy a newer LS1 V8. You can get the same performance out of one of these for thousands less than it will cost to change your VS.
VT II SS's with LS1's can be had for about $9000 by themselves now...
Still need to no what you no so then we no if you need to no more!
oh my you are very ambitious..... dont know which state you are in but:
1> Non-Factory SC or Turbo pretty much illegal unless on full unrestricted licence
2> Driving any type of mod car on restricted licence - instant nightmares/pull overs
3> Some states also have age restrictions on enhanced cars
4> Start checking your insurance quotes now - BEFORE you do the work - you will be whole-heartedly disappointed
and yes, as noted in an earlier response, you have a lot of 'pre-strengthening' work in the block and elsewhere.
i dont know the full list, but have had some mechanics previously tell me you basically do a full ground up rebuild, then start SC works.
Oh and possibly requires engineering certification afterwards
