Default VS Calais Power Steering Pump?

    Hi all,
Having a couple of problems with my VS' Power Steering System. I've bought a reco pump for it and put it in - but there appears to be a fair bit of play in the pully shaft. Is a fair bit of play normal? If not does anyone know what the problem is most likely to be?
    Cheers

dont know of the top of my head, but a good check is remove the belt from your engine, and check the play in ur original one.

what was/is the fault with ur power steering system that made you go for a reco pump?

The pump was squealing and no longer behaved like a vario-tronic unit (sorta heavy at low speed / rpm). Got the reco pump for the right price so I thought I'd jump on it lol
There is more play in the new one...dunno whether to pull it apart and see (sick of getting dexron 3 everywhere lol)

There should be little or no play in the pulley shaft. Sounds like the bearings have collapsed - in other words the recondition wasn't done or wasn't done properly - probably just replaced the seals and didn't look at anything else.

there should only be 1mm of play in the front to back of the pully motion, are we talking about v6 ecotec here? If so it is likely the internal circlip on internal rotor has let go or not been put back on correctly which will let the shaft go. Also power steering pumps for vs v6 series dont have any bearings there a solid shaft design and sit in spring seals at the front.
