Default Brake pedal occasionally travels to floor

Three weeks ago I had a mechanic install a new brake master cylinder. A couple of days ago the brake pedal went to the floor and then worked OK. The thing is working fine at the moment but it has done it on about 4 occasions. The next press of the pedal and the brakes are fine. The pedal has a hard feel about it, so it doesn't feel like there is air in there. Another new master cylinder is being fitted tomorrow. However the mechanic is not sure that this will fix the problem as he has only assumed it is a faulty MC. Could there be an issue with the ABS? The original MC was only replaced as it had started to leak after having the brakes bled at a routine service. It gave no problems in braking performance.

You have bubbles in the brake lines, clear them out immediately.

If the pedal is firm when all feels good then there is no air in the system.

The pedal going to the floor is normally caused by faulty seals inside the master cylinder allowing the fluid to bypass from the primary side to the secondary side (or vice versa).

Evan with a fauly ABS unit I dont think this would happen as each of the channels (hydraulis circuits) are seperate to each other.

I assume your mechanic will be replacing the m/cyl under warranty?
