Default Advice on a new car

Hey, so Ive been trying to find a commodore for a while now, been trying to toss up between a vs and a vt, im not really fussed.
I found a series 2 vs acclaim for sale yesterday, it has just under 200,000 kays on it, all the normal acclaim stuff and 17 internationals with new tyres. Hes asking for $3750 negotiable, what do you think of the price?

Also I was looking at the photos of it and was just wondering if the way the boot sits looks normal to everyone else, or if it out of alignment or something. I attached the photo below. Arent the boot lights supposed to be in line with the outside taillights?

And also when I go to look at it what should i be looking out for?
    Cheers

Boot latch might just needs adjusting?
Check the normal things such as -
    - Klm's are original (log book and work shop receipts)
    - tyre wear (on the IRS)
    - engine is cold when you look at it to make sure it starts and idles properly
    - gears shift is smooth
    - rust around front rear windows
    - bent or creased chassis rails
    - all the electrics work
    - and a big thing with these early air bag models is the air bag cover lifts off the passenger side dash
Price seems reasonable if its with RWC + REG.
PERFORMANCE MODS- JTG Liquid injection, Under driven pulley, Pacemaker extractors, 3" X-force system, Cold air intake, MAF Less tune 267.9 RWKW'S

personally the vs. but you have to be more specific sorta thing. like post up a link of the vs and vt if your asking which one we would chose. And just the general condition of the whole car. If its been in any previous accidents, rust, servicing and just things like that. IMO you could probably talk him down a bit

Only negative I can see is the heavy duty towbar - this indicates it has been used to tow a caravan and not a light box trailer. The Auto's on Commodores overheat when towing caravans (sometimes) so it's always a bit safer to buy one without a towbar. The body will actually stretch if a body reinforcing brace is not used. Just my opinion.

If they were v8s i would take the vs but since there just 6s it comes down to what you like better IMO.

I normally prefer VS over VT but that VT looks cleaner and appears to have not been screwed with. I would check for a service history on both vehicles, drive them both and take it from there. Some observations....the VS has a cold air induction off the supercharged VS and most probably has had other stuff done as well. Seller says leather interior....leather what? The VT is a late series 1 and looks stock as a rock. Just my opinion.

from what ive heard VT series 1 had a few issues, as well as being a fair bit heavier than most other commodores. i'd be going for the VS, lighter equals faster and better on fuel, and i dont know about you's but i hate the rear garnish that VT's have, just my opinion

The vs is a late model vs 97 series two most problems had been ironed out by then thats something to consider as the vt is an early one with a brand new chassis. Just something to consider

    both have high kilometers
in brisbane a vt with 200+kms would only be worth 3 thousand
    i would keep looking
they would want to be pretty damn well looked after with those prices

I know this is straying from the original post, but I have found another VT for a similar price. Its an executive with 138,000kms, but the ad says that the rear breaks need 'doing' and that the left hand tappet gasket was leaking. How much do you reckon that would be to put right?

Pics and more info please. Rear brakes could mean a seal kit, pads and rotors. If that was the case a couple of hundred bucks. RC gasket 20 bucks if you do it yourself. BTW, also noticed the VS window tint doesn't look the best.

Depends on what it means by rear brakes need doing, if it is just pads and/or machining of the disks that won't cost much at all, depending on what pads are used.

The Rocker Cover Gasket wouldn't be much either, so couple hundred at best, unless discs need replacing due to being warped or something.

IMO, i wouldnt buy it if it needs work doing. It can turn into a big hassle. Unless you ask the owner to go and get it quoted as to how much it will cost and if there is anything else wrong with it
