No autos have drain plugs - not since the 50's. Just undo one of the oil cooler hoses where it joins the radiator cooler - run engine for 10 secs or so. Easy.

Yeah be very careful with doing it the way hako said. The auto is fairly high pressure so the oil will spurt out like no bodies business. Yes I have learnt this the hard way.

unless you feel like taking your tail shaft out , but if you do mark it so it aligns the same way

if you or a mate is handy on a welder you could put a sump plug in the pan

thought its not going to help you at the moment

You can also buy aftermarket pans with a sump plug in them, usually on ebay if not they're always on the US ebay. Get a decent quality one though, not some cheap crap that'll crack when it warms up a bit.

Also, I've found that there is usually enough oil in the trans lines to and from the radiator that you can get a decent sample without having to have the engine running when you undo them. Depends how much you need though I guess.

use a brake fluid sucker and push the tube down the fill tube
oh and note mearly all new gearboxes dont have a dipstick and have a fill plug in the bottome of the auto pan
this is too stop people who incorreclty check their fluid from draining too much out or refilling it with the wrong fluid
causing long heaterd arguments with warranty from holden
