Question Cruise Control fuse keeps blowing...any ideas why?

    Evening.

I recently bought my VR Acclaim under the impression that the Cruise Control doesn't work at all (there were no lights or anything to suggest otherwise). But now, with a little spare time on my hands, I figure I may as well see if it's fixable.

Anyway, up until today I assumed that the #11 fuse was fine, however after checking out all of my fuses I've discovered that this fuse always blows just after you turn the ignition "ON". I also discovered that if I press the On-Off switch for the Cruise Control just before the fuse blows, I can get the CRS light to illuminate (and stay illuminated, despite the fuse blowing).

Any ideas on what may be blowing the fuse?

    Thanks in advance :-D

It might be a faulty cruise control relay, which is located in the fuse box under the steering wheel.Just try another relay thats the same as the cruise control one.Theres a few relays that are the same on these cars.Theres more relays you could use to test the cruise control under the bonnet in the fuse box under there.

Sounds like a very good start; I've got four under there - "Ignition Relay", "HTD. PR. WDO. Relay", "Park Lamps Relay", "Flasher Relay". I'm guessing it's the second one if any of them?

    Thanks again.

Also, What i found with my VR, When ever i used the side power mirrors it always blue that fuse, so cruise would stop engaging. might want to disconnect the power mirror switch just for a try.

Sorry,I was thinking VS not VR,The VS has the smaller type relay for the cruise control right next to the blinker flasher unit under the dash.Im not sure where it is in the VR,from what youve said above,it doesnt mention the cruise relay there anywhere. Also the VS calais and berlinas have the mid and high series BCM's (Body Control Module) fitted, the cruise control relay is actually part of the BCM and not a seperate relay like with the low series BCM.Im not sure if VR is the same as this.

Right on the money! Can't believe I didn't think of it before given they're all on the same fuse! Yeah I bought it knowing the mirrors don't work, but they're hardly essential. Even though the controls do nothing there was obviously a fault somewhere in the line. I'm doing pretty well considering I bought it under the impression that both the A/C and C/C were truly dead. $130 later, I have A/C (regas; so little in there that it wouldn't even engage) and now I have C/C! Thanks again man :-D

Thanks for your suggestion; no doubt this thread will help someone else in the near future.

If you can find the broken wire in the mirror circuit - probably where it flexes going into drivers door, then you'll have AC, CC, and PM !!! just like a new one.
