Power steer pump question ?

hey guys ive checked all the threads etc and found numerous helpfull bits but the only thing i cant find is ...... when you strip the pump down to fit new seal kit (repco $17) to fit the new front seal into the housing does the shaft just pull out the front of the housing or is there any special tools or way of getting it out ?? havent pulled it appart yet as still driving it for now .. any help appriciated

put a seal kit in my vs 304 v8 power steering pump awhile ago,just tap the sharft out with a rubber mallet,then take old seal out put new seal in,when you go to put the sharft in put some new p/s oil on the sharft so seal slides over the sharft and bobs your uncle.take care when putting front seal in,i used a good size socket that is abut the same size of the seal and lightly tap in ,

sweet gofast. but do you take the pulley off the shaft first ? or does the vane holder come off the shaft ? just done some check on yanky sites and most r taking pulley off but.... this is on the v8 style pump ........guess its the same in respect :/

yep take the pulley off first then slide it through the housing
