hi there the engine light come on the other day and hasnt gone off i notice the ac themo fan is on all the time never come on before can any one help would it be a bad earth
if engine light comes on check error code as above, main earth lead is thick black from battery goes down engine loom and connects to engine mount bolt bottom left side...check if its all tight if worried... bad earth would make car run like crap... you could try 1 jumper lead. connect it to motor the the other end to earth on battery... start it up and see if its the same...
now brakes are playing up and themo fan comes on
checked error codes yet? We need more information if you want us to help you. What's wrong with your brakes? Typically if the thermo fan is on all the time the Coolant Temperature sensor is faulty or the engine is overheating for a number of reasons.
As above codes etc...The PCM turns on the fans as a safety measure if the temp signal is lost. (this is totally seperate to the temp gague)
Is the brake pedal harder than normal?? Does the engine run differently (rough) when the brakes are applied??
If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?
found out the brake booster was stuffed what is pcm and where is the temp sensor
ive got the same problem with my vs calais. ive done the error code check and it 12 which was system ok! but the car runs fine
Check the engine cooling fan relay by swapping with a similar relay, replace if broken. Coolant temperature sensor problems are supposed to set DTC14 or DTC15, but you could try replacing it. Also the air conditioning pressure switch can provide an earth for the fan if the pressure exceeds 1770 kpa.
vscalaishsv, is your fan on all the time or does it come on 60 seconds after the engine is started? That's the problem I have with my Calais.
i disconected the coolant sensor and the engine light come off but the fan was still on can i still run the motor with the coolant sensor not connected if anyone can help thanks
hi guys i did the paper clip trick (thanks for the help) it punch out codes 12 14 15 16 wich is ect sensor auto only is that the engine coolant sensor
Yeah replace the coolant temp sensor and go from there. ECT = Engine Coolant Temperature.

The subject of this post is the A/C thermo fan (the one in front of the radiator) being on all the time. You said you had the same problem, perhaps you misunderstood. If your problem is the climate control fan (heater fan) being on all the time then you need a new fan control resistor. Do a search on climate control and you will see a number of posts on how to replace it.
Seems to be more a simple case of confusion. OP isn't talking about his AC fan but the usual fan.

my ac fan had come on after the ect sensor stuffed up i have a normal clutch fan on the motor ill replace the ect senor and see what happens what do u think
Yeah of course sorry. Should learn to read things more thoroughly.

replaced the sensor today the ect and everything is back and running normal thanks to those people that help me sort this out
In the manual I have it says the 5.0 litre coolant temp sensor is at the front of the inlet manifold.Theres 2 sensors next to eachother, one is for the temp gauge and has a single wire, the other is for the ECU and has multiple wires,
