Hey guys
I just ran an Error Code Test on my VS as I was curious and it turned up 12, 23, 48 and 76
So I was wondering what I need to do to fix these codes and was wondering if 23 (MAT high voltage) is caused by using a pod filter and having the little sensor that is supposed to plug into the air box unplugged.
Also I have been getting around 320KM/Tank, I guess that would be explained by 76 (Air/Fuel ratio variation between left and right banks) but for the life of me I don't know what 48
(Cam Angle Sensor) is and I need some advise on what I need to replace.
Thanks
If its running ok why do you bother checking for faults?
Poor mileage might only be poor driving.
cheers
I have lent the car to a few family members before and the KM/Tank ratio was the same.
Also I checked as from what I have read a lot of people get better consumption then I do and I like to keep the driveline in the best condition possible by fixing things before they can cause problems down the line.
Yes, having the sensor unplugged will cause that code, as well as poor mileage and could also be causing leaning out of some of the cylinders making the A/F ratio out of whack. Pod filters are rubbish. Unless you have some sort of forced induction, or a stroker engine you'll never see the benefit of having a performance filter. I bought a K&N panel filter a long time ago, and it made me lose over 100Kms to a tank of petrol. Took it out and presto, good mileage again.
Cam angle sensor is the Crank angle sensor AFAIK, but you should reset the ECU to check this wasnt just a once off gremlin.
Ditch the pod, get a proper air box and I bet you'll see 2 of those 3 codes disappear. If it doesnt fix the A/F ratio its probably an oxygen sensor.
Thanks for the response I have disliked the pod that is on it since I got the car, I will change to box and CAI as soon as I got the money.
23 - have you still got your sensor plugged in? if not plug it in and get an adaptor so you can plug it in.
76 - have you changed your o2 sensors since you've had the car? if not invest in a pair (VS has 2) and change them. you may want to check this how-to also, may or not apply but may be a cause to your problem. How To: Fix the VS V6 4 Wire O2 sensor earth problem – Known Holden Problem
48 - you will want to have your CAS changed sooner rather than later, as if it dies it will leave you stranded.
the low km per tank is a great indication the car isnt performing correctly! and you should check codes every now and again so you catch anything before it becomes a problem or leaves you stranded somewhere.
where is the cam sensor located?, the 02 Sensors are prob still the same as the day it rolled out of the factory.
I actually have a new CAS that I was going to fit to my VR however the Car was sold before I changed it I assume there the same CAS? and would that explain why a few times it has had a slow crank over? as it don't show the same symptoms as the VR did when the Sensor was screwed on that.
The cam angle sensor is different to the crank angle sensor, its loctaed just above the harmonic balancer but to the drivers side a bit.You can see the wires going to the sensor pickup.Ive seen the magnet thats used to trigger this sensor come out of the camshaft sprocket. Some USA websites say to glue it into the camshaft sprocket.Just remove the cam sensor and look into the hole to make sure sensor magnet is still in the hloe in the camshaft sprocket.
