speed sensor querie

please help hi all wikid site has helped me heaps........
now can some one please tell me the difference between a vn-vp v8 vehicle speed sensor and a vr vehicle speed sensor as i have put vp auto int my vr and cant get a true signal to my dash both analogue and digital will move a little but that is all then nothing. at the same time the auto will start changing through all gears then stays in 4th...
