Default weird creaking noise through steering wheel

hi all, my vr wagon is making some weird noise when turning the wheel. i changed springs in the front and when i had the RHS strut out the top hat sort of came apart and some of the ball bearings fell out, i also changed the sway bar links on the front as well. when i put it back together thats when i noticed the noise through the steering wheel and after changing the sway bar link kit it didnt fix the rattling problem either.
i had it checked today and bushes and sway bar links are all still good. could it be that i just need to replace the top hat part where the ball bearings go? or am i looking at something different?

It could be as simple as a dry bush where the steering shaft passes thru the firewall - this makes a groaning noise when moving the wheel. Fix by spraying with WD40 from under the car or grease if you can reach the bush/grommett.

if bearings fell out of the strut top plate you shoul;d replace it before it grinds itself away due to lack of bearing support
the weight of your strut sits on this bearing plate and allows the strut to swivel you dont want it to fail trust me!~

If its a moaning ,groaning type of sound,it will be the lower bush where the steering shaft passes through the firewall as mentioned above by hako.A very common problem on these cars.WD 40 fixed mine. After being told by a suspension and steering place that I needed a new power steering pump and rack.I then took it to holden thinking they would know if this was right, and got a second opinion, they looked at it,listened to it and said, yeah thats right, its either the rack or power steering pump, probably both.I still wasnt sure they were causing this noise, then Ive then read on here a few days later about the moaning noise in the steering, and the dry bush that causes it,and that WD fixes it,so I tried spraying the WD into this bush, and 3 years later the noise still hasnt come back.Ive since fixed this noise in a lot of VS's ,much to the delight of the owners. Some of them had been told the same thing about needing a new power steering pump or rack to fix this noise..typical holden mechanics.Pff.You would think they would know what was causing this noise on their own cars, especially when its such a common problem..I would have been down $1000 for a new pump and rack plus fitting when I didnt even need them. Also Id be replacing the top shaft bearings where they fell out from.
