Default VR Statesman Fan Speed Resistor - where to buy at a reasonable price

    Hi guys,

I was quoted $231 for a fan speed resistor for my vr statesman today from holdens. This sounds a bit steep ? Can any give me some leads where I can buy one for a reasonable price (wanted to get a new one rather than gamble on a second hand one from wreckers).

I saw in a forum someone talking about a change over service but havent been able to find anyone online providing this service.

    Any help much appreciated.

    Cheers

i have spares, or you can repair your own from wagners, it's a Darlington transistor under the heatsink, just need to solder a new one on.

yeh you could, but it'd still be second hand and you wouldn't know how long it would last, i have repaired the spare i have so they have new mosfets on them.

I thought the stato fan speed resistor (i.e. with climate control) was different to say, an exec without climate control and couldn't simply solder on a new resistor? I've repaired a few of them in an exec with this method but just though the climate control fan speed resistor was physically different with lots of long alloy spikes to dissapate the heat build up. My memory could be wrong though. Would you happen to have a pic of one to suit climate?

Your memory is correct - the climate control amplifier is solid state and completely different to the Exec. The1 knows how to fix them
