hi there, have been looking at the OTR CAI for vrs and like the look of them... what would be better pefromance wise for my vr wagon, a v8 otr or a v6? going to put a k&n high flow panel filter in any feedback on the or suggestions?
OTR CAI is ok, does get the air in there more and is cooler as it's coming straight in, if you sit in traffic though the radiator heats the plastic up and makes the intake very hot, can get 40c ambient temps when it's 28c outside, i did get some refrigerant foil tape and put that around mine to stop the heat soak seems to keep it under 35c or so now on a really hot day. The best CAI i have seen is the box ones that are sealed in the corner they should work better but i haven't tried one.
I think Oiled filters are more trouble then there worth. There are high flow standard paper filters out now if you really want one, but really it's seat of ya pants, no gains to be had, even CAI only helps with throttle response no gains to be had really there either. Better spend money on bolt on rockers & exhaust if you want real gains to start with.
well i wouldnt bother spending money on those cai they sell thats in the market they only look good for the price you pay
for me im running my cai thru the bumper with a close box and a pod inside cos it sucks more air and its cheaper to do it yourself
got the pod on there and throttle is a bit better, like the look of the otr's so no gain? put an exhaust on it the other week, 2.5 cat back goes a bit better and sounds tuff but still wanting more... how much of a change will rockers give? had a go up against a stock vs the other day and was much of a much... not happy lmao..
Cut a bigger hole where the factory snorkel went = win and all for less then a carton.

Check out the MACE intake setup, it uses a pod in an enclosed box. A CAI alone will never give any real power increase, just another way of trying to get cooler air to the engine. I have the MACE product on my VS L67, I replaced the factory OTR setup as the hole had begun to close over and it was always really hot to touch.E ngine is running noticebly cooler, and the sucking niose on top of the charger whine is great (if you like that of course). I'd highly recommend MACE, money well spent, and great guys to deal with.
looking for a cheap second hand set, want to when i find some for the right price.... and a high flow cat.. il check out the MACE setup and have a look around..
I cut the bottom of my airbox and noticed a difference. The factory hole is more like 10 centimetres. I was going to go super 6 cai but a local performance work shop said they wouldn't work near as effective as my custom airbox.

When you say "custom" do you mean ONLY making the hole bigger???
Yeah only making the hole bigger. I think I went way too extreme but as I have completely removed the front half of the bottom of the airbox. I will be going to the wreckers today to get another airbox bottom and will only cut the front out and see if it makes a difference.

Well for starters after 200,000k's im going to buy a new air filter. Not a K&N one though - they're like $90....i doubt i'd much more of an improvement over a standard filter for $10.
Sorry to hijack the thread CHA53R...
I got a fair bit more induction noise that's about it. I only bought K & N in the hopes I would get a discount on an exhaust which never happened. The drift branded filters are a fair bit cheaper and are reusable. I noticed no difference whether it be induction noise or "performance" going between the two.

Not to overtake this thread with friendly banter, but all I meant by my comment BlackVXGTS, was not to expect huge power increases from a CAI. That's why I said real power increase, meaning nothing substantial.
Let us know how you go with tha MACE setup CHA53R, if you go down that path.
lol your cool, put a pod on with a pipe under the front guard, didnt notice too much difference, just bit more pick up when the engine is cool.. soon as it warms up not much difference at all... going to go extractors first and then look into the mace and other upgrades i can do next year... has anyone had or seen lukey extractors on a vr? can get a set cheap.. but looking around for a set of pacemakers... no one has them cheap at the moment so is it worth puting the lukeys on and an aftermarket y pipe or wait around for a set of pacemakers?
