Hi folks
This is my problem and have looked for an answer in the forum but no results found.
I may have missed something so please don't be too hard on me.
OK its a VS SW running on Gas/Fuel but only works on Gas
When I brought it was told that he has only been using gas and as soon as you try the fuel it stops.
Now thats not my real problem here just a history.
Was taking it to have a blue slip so washed the car and gave it a degrease hosed it off left it for a few hours to dry started as normal no problem.
But yesterday when I went to start it turned over about 5 times then shut off. Just like I had turned off the key. No response at all no starter nothing. So I checked the gear shift for that switch put into n and P nothing. Checked the fuses all OK in the cabin, Outside fuses OK Checked and reseated the relays still nothing swaped some of the relays nothing looked at all connections boxes that may have had wet seep in nothing. Jump start the battery nothing. All electrics seem to be working but when you turn the key to the start position a warning light comes on. Its the explanation with a circle in the middle when you turn off the key it goes out. You can hear the relays kicking in when the key is turned on. Did the error test had 12 X 3 come up. So I have no idea what to try next. Could the starter motor just cut out like that in a cycle??. Any help appreciated please.
with the error test 12 will come up 3 times, then if there's an error code it will come after 3 times after then cycle back around to 12 again. Check this link for instructions Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised)
Sounds like your keyhead isn't disarming the immobilzer, can you lock and unlock the car with the key fine? does the security light go out before you try to start?
It can be your factory security system KEY/BCM. Do you have a spare key?
Does the security light go off when you try to start the car. If not then you have a security problem key to BCM.
It can also be the starter solenoid burned out had one this week at work it wont crank over at all. Common problem on commis.
Thanks for the replies.
I waited for the 3rd count then let it run an extra 3 counts still being 12 so I figured that was enough
Will repeat this again just to make sure.
Yes the red flashing light goes out when the key is turned to the start position.
But thats it no action at all.
As I said it was turning over done 5 cycles then stopped dead.
If its the starter solenoid whats the go there is this a total starter motor or just a component.
Thanks again for the help here.
Austins were so much easier to work on LOL :..
Yeh that's right, so there's no codes then.
Im pretty sure the red light your talking about is the blown bulb indicator, like a taillight.
if you have a multimeter and can pull the positive off the starter motor then test it while someone turns the key and see if there's voltage going to the starter.
I think we are talking about the security light on the dach board. Mate.
check for signal at the starter relay. One side of the coil should be the inhibitor
Signal if automatic and the other side would be from the key signal. Thes 2 signals should be there to energize the
Starter solienoid.
Or you can just bridge pins 30/87 on the starter relay with the reds on to check the starter.
It also can be the main power cable to
The starter.
signal signa
Thanks for the info.
The light I mentioned is the 6th from the left. It glows when the key is turned.
I also have just checked the key as the rubber buttons are gone. It still opens and closes the doors.
Don't if any of this helps
