Hi , of late my auto vs has started to have a bit of a prob ! , sometimes say 1 time a week or 5 times a week or perhaps once in a fortnight , i get this front end shaking will driving along , but not when braking , a couple full stops and it sometimes goes away , it varies in severity . I have checked bearings and tie rods and they seem o'k' ,also no noise from diff , then some times the car seems to be being held back somewhat like a hand brake left half on without pulling to one side , i have tried to replicated the prob by belting down the freeway , constantly pounding the brakes , and sverving from side to side , with no luck ! , still got no idea whats up , but am suspecting rear caliper sticking or possibaly a diff prob , but just guessing , anybody got any ideas ? , thanks........
If the front end is shaking, and it only happens every now and then, I'd be maybe checking that it isn't engine related otherwise it would probably happen all the time. First I'd do a fault code check: Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised) This check is very simple to do.
Good Luck.

Thanks for reply , had error codes done 3 weeks ogo , nuffin came up , engine does not miss and gbox changes fine , sometimes when it happens the steering wheel really vibrates badly ! , once i thought a front wheel was gonna come off , pulled over , checked wheel , drove off , and u woudnt believe it , no shake ,drag, nothing , got me stuffed !........
Hi , you wouldnt believe it , fine last night , this morning straight away car draging and front vibrates !!! , any ideas ? , ta.
Yep , u woudnt believe it , as i said did it first up , came home parked car , now i just went down to shops all o'k' , well ill be !....
What sort of tyres are on the car? Does it usually do it when you drive the car first time after it has been sitting stationary for a fair while say overnight or all day? If this is the case then it maybe the tyres are "flat spotting" and after you drive it for a bit they heat up and balance out.
I had Toyo F3's once and they did exactly this so I made some enquiries and was advised it was due to their construction, apparently they had a rather hard plastic belt in them to stiffen the tyre up and this belt flattend out on the bottom when you let the car sit say for a long while say over night.
I'd get in my car first thing and it would vibrate through the steering wheel for a few minuts and then it would be fine until the next time I got in it first thing.
You could try borrowing another set of front tyres and se if the problem still happens?
I have a vr and it used to do exactly the same thing, at the time it had the standard holden mags and tyres on it. But when i changed the mags and tyres to some off a vx ute it went away straight away.

Thanks for reply , ill have to look into it , it seems to do it willy nilly , but 2 times that i can remember the car has been stationary for a while , ive got 2 good tyres on std vt rims i can swap with , but it doesnt explain the draging , as if the handbrake was on !...
Have you done an inspection of the engine mounts? I have an intermittent vibration problem in my VR and I think replacement of the mountings is due. As they soften, they sag and there may be metal-to-metal contact being made thereby transmitting vibration through the body.
if you are suspecting a siezing caalipar thats pretty easy to check, while you got the car up changing tyres/wheels whatever, just clean the slide pin on the caliper up with some emery paper and lube with your favuorite 'ky jelly' grease.... If you feel the drag and shaking again turn your tunes of, pop a window and listen for brakes grinding that might tell you if your on the money with the idea of calipars seizing too..
Ta for all replies , well , i just took the punt and took the car on a 1500km trip , all good no worries ! , then this morn i drove the car to town and walla ! , stop for train and as i move off starts again , give the brakes a big heave ho and its almost gone , gotta be a caliper i recon , but which one ? , it doesnt pull to one side , ta........
