Default Old VS Front Strut - Question about operation

    Hi,

I recently removed one of my front struts in order to fit my shiny new Monroe GT Gas and King Springs Lows.

I removed it without too much trouble, and took the spring out.

Without the spring, the strut does not expand by itself. I can move the shaft in and out without any trouble and I can hear the fluid moving around inside.

Is this by design or is it due to its age (230,000kms old!)

My new Monroe expands by itself without any trouble - hence why I think the old ones were shot.

    Thanks!

if they are the original one they are not gas pressurised, like your new ones, you should have resistance pushing it in and out, so at 230000kms they are aprox 130000kms past there use by date.

lol, yeah they are well over due for replacement!

There is a bit of resistance, but it is good to know they were not completely rooted!

It will be great once I get the new ones in, just waiting for my springs now!
