Only problem is i melted the reservouir for the powersteering and kind of cooked the pump,

how easy is it to repair the pump?

is it easy to install a power steering pump cooler???

Personaly. Id find a stainless resviour if you can. buy top notch hoses. and put a new pump on . mabie even but a magnefine filter in the power steer return line so u pick up all the metal shavings from the pump when u do give it a ripper of a time

Just shield the pump and hoses with a piece of metal plate - this prevents the hoses and reservoir from absorbing radiated heat from the manifolds. This is the simplest most efficient way.

Well when i drove it home it was fine, basically after the burnout attempt was told by the fireies that the extractors were glowing, the engine was freaking hot, and it was raining on the day so steam an everything was coming off the engine, we got to the side of the road and the res had oil pouring out of the bit were the res goes into the pump, we made a make shift seal with lots of repco o rings and by tightening the bolts, works well but the pump is making a hell of a whinning noise, and drives like a stretch limo with no power steering lmao, i've been told to look at the VS power steering reservouirs as the were located off to the side, so that's going to be my search and fix bit for the weekend, to be honest as i've never done a dyno before i'm not to sure how hot engines get, but obviously i'm thinking they would get freaking hot, the inlet manifold would touchable and noticed no problems with drive home, regarding the power steering.

I've thought of doing something along the lines of seperating and shielding the res from the pump, but how do you maintain the res connection to the pump???? it seems it needs to be compeletly off the pump, think the pump is make out of iron, makes a hell of a thump when you tap it, seems to be strong as hell, my idea will be to some how install a trans cooler inline with the LP return line and possibly install a VS power steering reservouir this should make it abit cooler and not get so much heat from the pump, cheers

I don't think fitting a cooler will be of any benefit because the heat is melting the plastic reservoir and/or the rubber hoses that go to the pump - running cool oil thru the centre of these hoses will not cool the outside of the hoses which are absorbing radiated (not conducted) heat from the extractors and they will still melt. It's a bit like standing close to a hot fire and drinking a cool beer to stop your skin burning....it ain't gunna happen!
Shielding is the way to go IMO.
