Check the ABS systems for any ABS error codes by bridging the ALDL connector pins 5 and 12.This will flash up ABS error codes on the ABS dashlight. Its a similar process to flashing up the ECU error codes on the engine dashlight.Heres a list of the different ABS error codes and what they mean.
12 Diagnostic system operational
21 Right hand front wheel speed sensor fault
23 Right hand front wheel speed sensor continuity fault
25 Left hand front wheel speed sensor fault
27 Left hand front wheel speed sensor continuity fault
28 Wheel speed sensor frequency error
31 Right hand rear wheel speed sensor fault
33 Right hand rear wheel speed sensor continuity fault
35 Left hand rear wheel speed sensor fault
37 Left hand rear wheel speed sensor continuity fault
41 Right hand front inlet solenoid valve circuit fault
42 Right hand front outlet solenoid valve circuit fault
45 Left hand front inlet solenoid valve circuit fault
46 Left hand front outlet solenoid valve circuit fault
55 Rear inlet solenoid valve circuit fault
56 Rear outlet solenoid valve circuit fault
61 Pump motor relay circuit fault
63 Valve relay circuit fault
71 ABS control module internal fault
Yeah, I got 23. So where the bloody hell do i buy a sensor i looked on ebay for a quick price ball park. none even on there?
Check the wiring connectors before you buy a sensor as this will log the same code.
If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?
^ definitely.
Also inspect the toothed wheel behind the brake disc and the mounting of the sensor. There should be no damage to the teeth and the sensor should be securely mounted . It should be clean of the tiny magnetic rocks that tend to accumulate on the magnet in the sensor.
There is a spec on the gap between sensor and teeth but I don't know it off the top of my head. Check against the other (working) sensor on the LHS would be an easy first check.
Even a wheel bearing with excessive play in it can throw the signal off enough to get a fault code.
If it is the sensor you will need to buy a complete hub as the ABS sensor is part of the hub assembly, but first disconnect the battery to clear codes as well as checking cable to the sensor.
