I've got a vs v8 auto I want to convert to manual. I've got the t5 box, ecu, engine loom, pedals. I have a v8 manual tailshaft from a sedan will this fit my ute? Also is there a detent switch for the auto I need to disconect if so where is it? When I disconect the neutral start switch do I need to join any wires? Is there anything else I need to know? Can anyone give me some info or a thread or link about v8 conversions. Cheers.
I can help with the tailshaft info. The sedan tailshaft you have won't fit your ute as it'll be too short. You can do this two ways; either fit the t5 manual front input yoke from the sedan tailshaft onto your ute tailshaft or you can swap the whole front half of the tailshaft from the centre bearing forward as its from the centre bearing back to the diff where the utes/wagons are longer. Hope that makes sense and helps![]()

hey mate with converting auto to manual here are some tips ive done it before and doing it again
i work as a full time mechanic so im noooo backyarder and got a bit of experience behind me
you need your parts whitch
*gearbox T5 make sure u have the V8 bellhousing not V6
*your pedal box
*fly wheel clutch kit whitch you will need the fly wheel whitch u can buy as a whole kit flywheel clutch and pressure plate
*tailshaft to suit
*the loom for the gearbox reverse sensor and your speedo sensor
i think thats all
some of the tips
obviusly u drain your auto fluid and remove the gearbox and rip the flex plate off so all you can see is the back of the motor
when your here you might aswell as replace the rear main seal even if its not leaking couse for like a 10 dollar seal why not and you fix an oil leak while your already there
fit your manual flywheel use some loctite on the bolts make sure they are tight a neat trick here is to put a bolt through one of the holes for the gearbox and a nut on the other side get a mate to grab a flat blade screwdriver and put it against that bolt and jam it on the starter motor ring gear so you can do up the flywheel bolts heaps tight or to correct tourque setting
now put your clutch on and align it and tourque it down too
now if you have the T5 gearbox that suits the v6 you need to change the bell housing and send away the input shaft from the gearbox and the nose cone to get cut down shorter to suit the manual
once that is done you can re assemble your gearbox and get ready to put it in the car put your bearbox in and bolt your crossmember in place
put your tailshaft in and your almost done
heres the tricky bit off your auto gearbox where the selector is bolted onto the side you can unbolt the module whitch tells the ECU whether you are in neutrul drive or so on so on keep it and plug it back in and tuck it away in the engine bay
now you should be able to put a screwdriver in or some long nose pliers too choose on the module whether the engine is in park neutrel or drive you will have to use your imagination wind it one way and see if the engine starts if it does your in park if not your in 1st gear
if you are in first gear wind the little sensor around all the way so you can put it in park your engine should start with no need for going to an auto elec to bridge any wires
one main advantage keeping the auto selector and hiding it is i ran it inside one of my old cars and made a key up for it so i used it as an immobiliser i would just set it to 1st and if someone was to start the car reds would come on but it wouldent crank over couse the ECU in the car still thinks it has the auto gearbox in it and it wont allow it to start in first
also soemone told me a little while ago that the internally the T5 manual gearbox is the same for the V6 and V8 just the bellhousing input shaft and nose cone is diffrent gears and ratios are the same supposably
i know its alot of info i think i coverd everything if you need any help pm me or if you dont understand anything
goodluck with the conversion
perfect was looking for information on this
Thanks for the detailed info and tips peterg2121 awsome. Got the auto out now to get the manual in. Cheers.
