if you disconnect the BCM from the power steering soes it make the steering harder or more assisted?
ok so yes but which one
more or less assistance without the connection
I don't have this type of steering but I'd guess that as the power assistance is variable depending on the speed of the vehicle it will sometimes make it harder and sometimes make it easier....so maybe the only answer is disconnect it and try it.

The workshop manual for a VS (and is most likely the same for VR) says that if the variable ratio power steering stops working for any reason like a fault or whatever, the steering defaults to the minimum boost position ,It will still be possible to drive the car but the steering effort will be higher than normal.Id say disconnecting the wiring would make the P/S unit default to the minimum boost setting that I just mentioned.
