You can put the G8's on the VS Statesman buddy, but yes you will need the guards rolled.
When they roll the guards, the rear arch, with a 90 degree bend of sheet metal above the rear wheel, is gently bent upwards, to a U or V shape. Bit hard to explain, but bending that piece of metal allows clearance most of the time for larger wheels. I just had my VZ guards rolled to fit 20's.

However, considering they are VE wheels, there are another couple factors to consider.
1. The VE tyres foul on the front strut as the profile is too large, and the same on the rear bumper.
2. VE wheels have to be machined out, where the centre is drilled out to be slightly larger (VE has smaller hubs)
3. You'll need VE size wheel nuts to suit a 12mm thread. VE's have larger nuts to evenly spread force over the wheel and have 14mm threads

Sounds like a lot, but if you go to your local wheel and tyre joint, they should be able to help you out.
Cheers
G
