Ok
I am having gear box troubles.
Codes I am getting are.
Code 69 - TCC Stuck ON - Auto Transmission Only
Code 72 - Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) - Auto Transmission Only
Code 83 - Torque Converter Clutch Circuit - Auto Transmission Only.
I have had code 83 since i bought car over 7 years ago.
GB is leaking oil, so troubles changing gears etc when low on oil. and gearbox seems a little sluggish.
I have searched the web and forums to understand these codes, but cannot find anything.
Does anyone have a manual on understanding these codes ?
Cheers
Pete
I'm only guessing, but I'd say 69 means the TQ is staying locked up when it should be unlocking....symptoms should be apparent.
code 72 may mean the VSS is faulty in some way resulting in the transmission not knowing what the engine speed is
code 83 may refer back to the code 69.
However, read this link and see if it helps: 4l60e Problems and Solutions - S-10 Forum
Might be time for a reco box.

Thanks Hako.
Ok, So does the gearbox need to come out to fix these things, are they fixable?
Or is is better to go with reco gearbox.
Can a semi backyard hacker do this job, any special tools require or difficults in doing this job.
Any advice, Cheers
Only advice I can give is what I'd do which ain't necessarily correct!....however I'd start fresh, clear the codes, drive for a few days and check what codes are up....then google each individual code e.g. google for code 69 "TCC stuck on 4l60e" and see what comes up, read and absorb/reject answers....then the same for the next code etc. Same for your queries on trans being sluggish etc. You will get a myriad of answers of which most will be irrelevant but there will be some grain amongst the chaff.
Then, armed with the knowledge gained from the above, decide what course of action to take, remembering that the safe way is to go to an auto trans specialist who will in all probability say 'box is stuffed - reco is only answer - $2000 thanks' or words to that effect. Also if they open or otherwise touch the box it will cost you (generally), so the more you can do yourself the better.
From your post, it may indicate that the VSS is bad, which may cause the TCC to stay locked in......or it may mean that the TCC solenoid is sticking which may make the ECU think the VSS signal is bad (I'm probably talking thru my hat here but with electronics, anything goes), so I would arm myself with a Gregorys manual which gives the procedure for checking the VSS and all other sensors. Check before replacing. The TCC solenoid can be checked electrically as well although if it's sticking that may not show up. All components can be replaced in the backyard depending on how driven you are!
I'd also maybe try a trans oil and filter change as this can sometimes prolong the eventual death of the trans, as can a tin of "auto trans stop leak". Wreckers sell trans for about $400 with 1 month guarantee....sometimes you can buy a wreck for this price...or at the auctions especially police and council abandoned vehicle auctions...or even the noticeboard at the supermarket.
Also check for 4l60e on YouTube.
Good Luck and I hope I haven't confused you too much.

Cheers mate
Is the 4l60e the gearbox model in VR commodores. Yep manual would be the best option so i then know what i am talking about.
Thanks
Have a look at these:

Ok cleared codes.
After a week getting Code 22 - Throttle Position Sensor (TPS), does this have anything to do with gearbox problem?
Can you remove replace this with gearbox in car?
Where abouts is it?
code 83 TCC PWM Solenoid Fault ( had fault for 7 years) can this soleniod be changed with gearbox in car, and where is it.
I have a ellerys manual trying to work this out. Could a gearbox covered in dirty oil cause these error codes.
The auto trans uses the TPS signal to help control the shifts etc.So if your getting an error code for the TPS,then that could also be causing problems with the trans.
The TPS plugs into the throttle body - do a search on TPS or check this link (for a VS) IAC & TPS Location help on V6 Ecotec
I'd try a new TPS, then clear codes and see if it clears the code 83 as well.
The Gregory manual shows how to check the TPS to see if it's OK....I only have the VS manual and VR may be different to check.
The dirty crap around the gearbox could well be causing your problems - I know the actual connector can get covered in grit/oil/crap plus the wires to the connector also get very brittle etc so that would a thing to try before laying out cash.....hopefully it will mean the solenoid is OK (if it's had this prob for 7years it must be OK).
Good Luck.
