Hi everyone, my first post here
just bought myself a vs ute, it has the statesman supercharged v6 and 5 speed manual in it
2 problems though.
5 times it jumped out of first when taking off at different times on the way home, gear shifter feels a bit sloppy too, what would cause that? it jumps out when im starting to release the clutch and the box is loading up, makes a godawful crunch and spits the lever into neautral..
what sort of gearbox do these have?is there a clip that goes on the shift lever that holds it tight? ( maybe that is missing )
also the speedo is not working, what should i look for?
cheers
thanks heaps
sounds like the syncros are gone and check the sensor on the arse end of the box
more than likely the reason he was selling it
Id be taking it back to where you bought it and ask the same questions .
Youve generally got 30 Days to get things cleared up if they aint quite right .
what sort of gearbox is it? t5 or single rail.....................sorry dont know much about them
i contacted the seller and he said it has never happened to him......Honestly!!![]()
Sound like bushes in the shifter & a worn box - need it reconditioned or replaced by sound of it
I'm pretty sure there is something a Buyer can do in this case.
Consumer Affairs is an Avenue The Buyer may want to take
If the Private sale was Receipted that is.
In any case the seller still would have to have duty of care on the sale
But I know where youre coming from, It would be quite easy for the seller to play ignorance and dismiss any such problem(s)
@ OP
its worth a try, dont me narky or aggressive. Just simply ask the Seller What the problem may be and if they have had any problems in the past.
You Might be surprised and they may help you out
GL
Cheers
You can try this route though be nice to the person that sold it to you at all times - if they are decent they will help out - I would think though that he would have known about it which is why he sold it in the first place - its really buyer beware & check things out before you buy - which is why they have inspections & the like - in Qld I wouldn't buy privately as there is just no protection for private buyers - plenty for dealer sales now & its worth it just for peace of mind - I don't think that consumer affairs can do much especially if there is nothing in writing. Most of the time with transplants there are problems & if you buy this sort of thing then you have to expect to spend money. Most of the time you would expect this sort of vehicle to be flogged to death & you should be wary straight up. I have been involved in many situations like this & tried to help out customers but in the end they end up having to pay to sort things out. If you bought from a dealer check out consumer affairs though I don't know where you are & what laws apply. If your in Qld I can help you out.
what years t5 will bolt directly up to the statesman v6 engine, so i know what to look for. cheers
when you say the speedo doesnt work, does it not work sometimes or all the time.
does it sometimes not go up until a certain speed or after a few seconds tells you the speed?
im not sure of the name of the box that is currently in it but i thought a T5 would be a better replacement as they are more readlily available and are strong
i have only had the ute 2 days , but the speedo has been completely dead the whole time
$1,500 for a flywheel for a getrag & you cant machine them - no doubt someone will make up something for them in the way of a billet flywheel etc Yeah T5 would be better for that alone.
You can modify them by locking them up & I think an RX7 plate can go in from memory the std one doesn't have the springs on it - cant really remember what we did with that one - did it for a mate as he had no money at the time.
The Speedo is a safety certificate requirement in Qld & would be in other states as well - you could take it to whoever did the inspection - if they wont do something see your local transport office be aware that they might put it off the road or give you a time limit to fix it though. Theoretically if the person who does the inspection does not want a kick up the bum by transport they should fix it free of charge. Good idea to get an independent inspection done & see what else is a problem - I have seen business's who have had to fix peoples cars free this way & theoretically the box jumping out of gear might come under this as its unsafe.
