Default Vr - vs calais bumper chrome strip

Just wondering if anyone has removed the chrome strip from the bumper on their VR/VS Calais. Is it a difficult process? Do you need to remove the bumper bar?
On the side doors, the chrome is attached to the black rubbers so I can't remove the plastic chrome strip? Has anyone successfully managed to replace these?
Apart from panel beaters can anyone recommend a good place/product/brand that makes or sells the chrome strip?
    Thanks

go to your local holden spare parts and they should have some of the orignal chrome strips fo the door and front and rear bar but it wont be cheap.
if ya carnt get the orignal ones there is a solid chrome strip on ebay CHROME MOULD VN VQ VP VR VS COMMODORE CALAIS BERLINA (eBay item 180597443487 end time 17-Dec-10 06:50:38 AEDST) : Cars, Bikes, Boats

you will not need to remone the front bar to replace the chrome strip cause all its holding it on is a black stick strip, all you wll have to do it peel the old one off clean it up and stick the new one on.

any body shop will put the side door ones on if you dont feel up to doing it your self

Original from Holdens will set you back around $110. According to our local dealer they have plenty in stock but each year they go up and up and up in price

supercheap didn't have it when I looked. you can just pull it out, clean off the glue and stick the new stuff in, I've replaced mine with that stuff that patrick posted before, good gear.

thats what i bought its ok for front an rear bar but i aint using it, its useless for the doors its like 2 or 3 mm smaller in width than factory moulds and is around 2 or 3 mm smaller in height with the guard badge and doesnt marry up looks quite shit, but each to there own

yeah nah it doesn't line up with the badge that well on the doors. I thought that when I first got it but if you just center it, it still looks heaps better than rusty and peeling old ones.

how has everyone gone about removing the chrome strip from the front bumper? do you just use a flat head screwdriver? or do you need to use a heat gun? is it easy to remove without causing damage. hopefully they remake those side door chrome strip parts. it seems like there is demand for them.

flat head screw driver in cloth so you dont scratch the paint, should lift off and leave glue behind. This comes off easy with some prepsol or degreaser and a rag.

there is a guy at work that just brought a VERY clean vs berlina and the chrome door strips are like brand new, not a chip, scratch or peeling. i am very jelous...

if you go onto rare spares web sight and go to there wish list and request that they should make the door strips and the front and rear bumper and they get enough requets they will make em

    Hay Nat,
When you did the doors did they peel off like the bumper?

Noooooooo the doors were like sin & death LOL. One word SIKAFLEX. This is the reason I still haven't done the other side hahah
Took HOURS to get the glue off, tried to take the badge off completely too but it lifted heaps of paint off so back on it went! BE VERY CAREFUL when taking the door strips off you don't know what the condition of your paint is like. There is a thread in here about removing sikaflex have a read about the stuff or get a shop to do it.
