Hey guys, does any1 have a how to change front and rear brake pads on a VS berlina ?? Or can any1 tell me how 2 ?
Thanks
If your not comfortable doing then get a mechanic.
Otherwise, jack up the car, take wheel off, unbolt calliper and swap over pads, you may need brake spreaders to push the calliper in to get it back on, make sure fluid reservoir doesn't overflow, would highly recommend new discs with pads, then reverse to reinstall again.
yea thats the thing.... i only got new rotors and pads like 8 months ago ?? surely they should last longer then that ?? its my left front and rear that sound like they metal on metal, havent had a chance 2 jack it up and check it out yet so not sure whats going on.....any ideas ?
Unless you drive like a lunatic, 8 months sounds too short.
Im all for having a go but, as above, if your not 100% comfortable get a mechanic to take a look for you.

They could be glazed. i thought mine were worn to metal+metal. The brake guy then said that I actually had 50% pad area left. plenty. He said they were just glazed. Sometimes when i stop it makes a hell of a screetch/squeal. Once hot they are quiet. i think i glazed them when i had to do a hard stop on the bloody freeway once cos it didnt do it till after that.
Ps 8 months does sound too short
what does glazed mean ?? and how do i stop them from sounding like that ?? gonna jack it up 2moro and see what the go is
Brake pads and discs glaze when they have been operating over there maximum temperature for to long, so either you've sat on your brakes for to long or they crap pads or discs.
If they are Ferodo from Supercheap - throw them away - they will last about 8000 k best try some QFM pads if you can - no noises plenty stopping power / no dust & they last forever - I am currently on 120,000k ATM & still 1/3 rd pad left
I have a VS with VT front brakes and master.
I have tried several brands of pads (some I threw out after 2 weeks) and Ferodo TA are the only ones that work effectively but are very dusty. I have tried QFM in a few cars over the years and, to be honest, they have never been much good.
To the OP,
If the pads are not glazed, you may find that the noise is coming from the leading edge of the pads (where they push up against the caliper bracket). A SMALL smear of hi temp copper grease (such as Never Sieze or Wurth CU800) applied to this leading edge should eliminate the squealing. I find most workshops do not do this when installing pads.

Ive tried a few different sets of pads, including some cheaper brands which were thrown out before they wore out because of the squealing they caused.Im heaps hard on brakes, I like to stand it up on its nose when stopping,I usually get about 6 months or so out of a set.The last set I used was Ferodo zero pads which lasted around 8 months. This time Ive got Bendix ultra premium pads in,so I will see how they go compared to the Ferodo brand..
I had a bloke with a Fairlane fitted with Bendix Ultimates I think they where - (at another shop) with drilled & slotted rotors & couldn't stop it - all we did was change pads & he was happy as a pig in s***t - I have always found them to be an improvement on most other pads & everyone I have fitted them for has been very happy - especially with no dust - never used them in a really hard day to day situation though & there is better grades for that - you cant compare daily driver stuff with racing - just different situation, different pad - simple as that - just had a chat with a bloke at Autobarn & hes got a QFM higher grade pad & its working well & very happy. I have had two customers supply their own pads from Supercheap & they where back in the door 4 months later complaining - even though I told them that I didnt want to do it & that there was no warranty on their pads - only complaint that I ever had.... didn't stop them blaming me though ...
ive tried holden pads, bendix and ive been using QFM pads the last few years, use them on both commo, barina and dads pulsar, zero dust and very good braking, all with just standard dba discs. With QFM you have to make sure you have the top notch pads A1's i think i use, the low end ones arn't much chop.
When I had a VN (14" wheels) I had a lot of trouble with brakes initially. The pads in it just did not work and I replaced the front rotors and pads with DBA slotted and Bendix pads, not sure which ones but they were very dusty and cracked, anyway there not made anymore so that's no comment on their current range.
I found the pads made by Australian Friction Industries at Liverpool to be very good, I used their harder compuond (has a red dot on the package) and they stopped good (for a VN), low dust and lasted for a long time.
In my current car, a VY it has slotted rotors ffront and back and GMH pads and stops well, there is not a lot of dust and they have done about 50,000km and about 1/2 worn. I was going to try AC Delco from Holden next up.
Of course you would with std Holden brakes - they where shocking ... under braked by a long shot. EBC pads are supposed o be pretty good as well - When I first started out I bought some "REPCO" branded pads - only fitted one set & used the rest on used cars that I was working on they where shocking....
I tried 3 different pads on my VS before i found one i liked. Bendix Ultra Premium from super cheap. Best pad I've found since asbestos got banned.
