does anyone know what the difference is between a 12", 10.5" and 9" torque converter what are the pro's an cons? sory if this has been posted before i couldnt see any info![]()
Smaller diameter converters stall at higher revs. Bigger converters stall lower in the rev range.
oh ok so what is better to use in a street car?
For street use i would use the bigger converter for low stall speed. Were is your car making its most power?
If your car is making lots of power up in the high rev range i would get the higher stall converter.
Get it dynoed and see were you car is making power.
I found for street use the factory ones are pretty good.
thanks for the reply mate my motor isnt finished being built yet so not sure on any power figures as such,
its a daily driven car so nothing over the top but consists of a come 355 stroker kit forged flat tops 30" cam is also come 229/231 109 lsa advertised duration at 50 is 286 not sure how big this cam is but says its good for 2500rpm to 6200rpm heads are being reco'd and shaved / milled not sure of all these technical terms lol, using standard bananas but will be using a torque-power dual plane manifold, double row chain n timing gears, double valve springs etc it has a transgo stage 2 shift kit with .500 boost valve an corvette servos with a 3400 - 3600 rpm 12" lock up converter so yeah i dunno if i made a wrong choice with the 12" or should i have gone 9" ? Also will be throwing 3.89 gears in the ass.
Go get a dyno mate. that will tell you a lot about your power range.
true will be dynoed when its done spoke to engine builder today prick said it wont be finished till mid january was hopin for before xmas considerin its been in shop for 2 months lol
Be patient mate. You dont want to loose your licence during Christmas.
thats a very good point since i got 2 points left on me full licence lol
ive givin meself a hour from when i get it back that itl be impounded defected and me losin me licence lol
Always a lot of time getting parts & then organizing a time to start & then find out every things wrong - anything out of the ordinary takes time & giving him a hard time wont help... you do realize that the engine will need to be run in ???
yeah i know it will need to be run in not blowin 10+ grand to thrash it when it aint run in an it shit itself ill need a tune to i also understand it takes time ive spoken to him twice an he cant give me any idea of when the motor will be done except for a couple of weeks after he goes back to work on the 10th but it will be worth the wait me car has been off the rd for 6 odd months but ahwell, been this long whats another month
ive also supplied him with everything bar the double valve springs an rockers everything else he has, i probably shouldnt of givin him the cash upfront for all the machine work and assembly i thought it might help speed things up but its all sweet itl be worth the wait
