Sounds like you spent a bit of $ on it. Dont think youll get back what you put into it tho. If it looks neat i would be expecting close to $10k. Providing you have all the paperwork to prove its a 'new' engine etc.

    definitely under 10k !!!
no idea on paint or interior or body condition .. but a vs isnt worth 10k
at least not where i live mate ..

most people struggle to tell the difference between a VR and VS without lifting up the bonnet (and then still some) and VR's are worth about 6-7k

you can buy good nick vt's for around 9-10k

    maybe if it had a v8 or s/c .........

Not a chance is a VS worth over 10k if that's all you've done to it. The stereo isn't all that great except for the JL subs, and the rims and tyres are just an incentive to buy, not really a massive price getter. I'd say 'bout 6.5-7.5 depending on where you live.

You can pick up a stock VS Exec (I'm assuming your car is an Exec?) at a dealer for $5000-6000 now so I'd reckon you'd be pushing to get more than $7000.

Fact is 210,000 on the clock is not heaps for a Commo so even though you might have a reco engine it's probably not worth that much to a potential buyer. And mods might help sell the car but they don't add a lot of value. Same with the respray.

That all sounds kinda harsh I know, but the reality is for cars like VRs and VSs it's a buyer's market because there are so many to choose from.

Got a 95 VS Exec. Got a trade in quote from Holden as i was looking at getting a new car (can't afford it just yet). They quoted $6000. I was really disapointed. Its in excellent condition, ex cop. Only have put VY S pac rims on her, added a JVC MP3 deck, nokia car kit, mongoose alarm, came with really good pedars suspensionm but none of that mattered. The dealer just saw a 10 year old commodore in good condition.

Plus don't expect too much, with petrol prices as they are at the moment, more people are looking for smaller cars.
    Now for a prayer...

To our god, who art made in Adelaide. Holden be thy name. Thy legends come, and championships won, on circuits as it is on Mount Panorama. Give us this day our daily grunt, and forgive us our burnouts, as we forgive those who choose to drive fords. Lead us into temptation, and deliver us a V8. For thine is the spirit, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever.
    HOLDEN!

I cant believe some peeps reckon a VS commodore with over 200,000 kms....is worth over 10G....reco motor or not...

Like Semmi said it's a buyer market a.t.m.

I recently seen an ol' fosil's VS Calais series 1 with full holden service history...unmarked inside and out with 89,000 Kms on the clock...for $9500 in QLD

Pity cause if it was near me I would have snapped it up straight away...

Mint Berlina's are fetching around $8000

Cars seem to be selling slow these days cause that Calais along with others I've seen have been advertised again... (I should have got a plane ticket to QLD)

There are alot of dreamers out there atm thinking they'lll get high prices....but they are still trying to sell their cars....I reckon you'd be lucky to sell your car at $6500...but also you didn't mention what colour it is a good colour will command more on the resale.

WHen i say over 10k, that's taking into account the new motor in a big way.
Unlike other people have mentioned, there's heaps of VS on the melbourne trading post fetching well above 10k, just for being VS or S/C.

10k might have been an overestimate, but there's no way it should be as low as $6,500. Might as well buy a nice VL turbo for that price!

    from redbook: http://www.redbook.com.au/vehiclesea...p?key=HOLD97DB

    1997 HOLDEN COMMODORE

VS II Sedan Executive 4dr Auto 4sp 3.8i
    average kms 135,000 - 165,000
    Trade in price guide* $3,400 - $4,900
    National average price - private sale* $4,700 - $6,800

i know redbook figures are often understated to some extent... but still it's a long way off $10k.

there may be heaps of VS listed for over 10k, but will they sell for that much? i doubt it. the question was "how much is my VS worth". so i still say $7500 would be about the max. a reco engine doesn't add that much and the rest of the mechanicals (esp the transmission) still have 210k on them and not to mention that's a lot of general wear and tear.

When we sold ours a while back we got 8k. You should be able to get 8k for yours given the mods. 8-9. Just put a price on it, if you don't get much interest. Drop it a touch.

Thanks sixshooter, looks like a great bargain for anyone looking at that model holden!

P.S. Or you could go the one in the same category, $900 cheaper and only 2.28million kilometres on the speedo :b:
