cold air and an exhaust w/ exctractors helps the engine breathe, makes acceleration smoother and more responsive but no real horsepower gains. Also...they wear out brake pads faster...the money you save on petrol you will ultimately end up spending on brakes, no real horsepower gains are noticed unless you have a bit of a cam/head work and a chip to suit. It will sound different and sound more powerful but infact its just louder :P

    Interesting......

I have a VS V8 stock ute. I am looking at Pacemakers for extractors. What sort of Cam/Head work would you recommend (apologies davidgreco1988 - I am not trying to steal the thread....the reponses might make your/my decision easier)

pacies also work better from say 70kmh upto about 130kmh not sure why but the pacies work well over 70kmh in the end you dont get any extra kw(may be 1 if lucky 2) but getting from 70kmh to 130 kmh is way smoother and seems faster but as vs said very little power increase.some say 5 to7kw as i sated above(thats not on a dyno) its just the car breaths better and gets of the mark a little faster hence why people think its extra bhp

it all depends on how much you want to spend and how far you intend to go in the long run ie forced induction. id stick with something mild like 205-215 dur cam, port-polish&match, upgraded valve springs, roller rockers, debur intake manifold and get a bigger throttle body, cold air induction, standard leads and injectors and get one of the gurus on here to craft you a custom MAFless tune. Thats about all you can do realistically without touching the bottom end. If your going forced induction its a good idea to do a little bottom end work- on that note, when i open a bottom end i like to stroke it

and as for the brakes thingy, your engine is flowing more freely so when you back off the accelerator it takes longer to pull up with extractors as opposed to stock headers......
