I've got a bit of surface rust in my spare wheel well. Am i fine to sand and use rust remover on that, and then prime+paint over the affected area? Or would i need to find a non rusty spare wheel well and have that welded in?
Also, there is a tiny hole, a few mm diameter dead center at the lowest point of the wheel well, is that there from factory or is that likely rust damage?.
My bro is a panel beater and he did a "quick fix" on my other bros car.
He just cut all the rust out and then bent and pot riveted some 2mm steel plate in, gave it a coat of primer and brushed some tar on both sides.
I sanded my down, was a fair few holes, welded it up slightly, then primed, painted, cleared.
been 3 or so years now and its fine.
also if your gonna weld a new spare well panel in there, get a brand new one, i can help you out with getting a new one if holden cant.
Here's a pic of the affected area, it doesn't look like a whole lot of rust to me.
I'm after the cheapest effective fix, so can i get away with sanding/converting that rust and then paining over the bare metal? Or is it bad enough to require it to be cut out?
i personally would worry about getting that cut out or rewelded
The Same happened to my car I got the rust cut out and a peice of metal welded back on it, I'm wondering if water is getting in there some how cause the last time I checked there was a pool of water in there, not sure how it's getting in there though!
dont cut that out its nothing just sand it and repaint i wouldnt even call that rust.
