how to tell the difference between 165kw and 185kw v8 engines?
Just wanting to know how you can tell whether the engine is the 165kw v8, or the 185kw hsv enhanced? besides the engine cover ofcoarse.
what was actually done to the engines to gain the extra 20kw?

The knock sensor is located on the side of the block right up under the exhaust manifold/extractors. It can be difficult to see when the motor is in the car.

looking at buying one, apparently its a 185kw motor,
does have the hsv enhanced tag on the firewall, but i've heard that it does not specifically mean that the motor was done.

pfft - just give it a good service inc coil & leads + give it a tune. Will go faster than any 185kw ever did.

Left hand bank behind the oil filter just above the sump and it looks like the pic jb4u posted(eventually ;-)). The wire for it will go past the dipstick tube.
other than the fact i have a vp senator 185kw down the back with a knock sensor
I like VS Caprices
CAI, extractors, stainless HSV exhaust, HSV chip, knock sensor. That's it from memory.
I like VS Caprices so much, I bought 2... and a WH Grange!
