Hi,my mate just called me,his VR broke down at the local servo in town here,I went over there to check it out,it starts and splutters and farts and barely runs, then after a few seconds it stalls completely. It wont rev up either, just splutters and then stalls.Theres no error codes set,it has good blue spark, and it has fuel at the rail, and it seems to have good pressure. We poured cold water over the CAS but it made no difference either, so any other ideas as to what it may be?I had a quick look with a tech 1,theres nothing out of the ordinary with the readings on it,so I doubt its got anything to do with the ECU or its components etc.Im leaning toward it having water in the fuel,or the CAS is stuffed and is not throwing up an error code.It was running fine when he stopped at the servo, and this started as he went to leave. What do you guys think?
Sounds like bad fuel, otherwise i have no idea. Best to check fuel to start with, not sure how you would go about this though. Good luck.
Bad Fuel Injector/s mate, my mate VS had the same problem, new injectors and she was sweet as![]()
If it's not a Symptom its not relevant, and if its not relevant I don't care!
That sort of problem is common when there is an internal coolant leak, like the inlet manifold dumping coolant into the engine and killing the spark.

Thanks Hako,I will ask him about the inlet manifold gaskets to see if its been replaced at all, and if it uses any coolant. He was hoping he wouldnt have to leave it on the street overnight, but it wouldnt go,he went and put more fuel in it,but it didnt help, then the battery went flat,so hes gonna have another go at it in the morning.I will post up what happens.
Check the cat for blockage first - check your fuel pressure - should be able to work it out from there
is there fuel outa the return line might not be enough pressure? CAS normally through 2 codes at once. Keyhead?
Not the fuel pump is it? Tried kicking the tank, etc?
Might pay to check the spark plugs themselves.
Or as mumboman said, injectors. Maybe not all blocked at once just enough to ruin your day.
Vr V6s also have a MAP sensor, this is green I think and is on the back RH (passenger) side of the engine bay, it should have an electrical clip and a vac hose going into it, this will make it get confused and run crappy etc but should throw an error code.

Check how many bars you are getting on the fuel rail. should be 3 bars (fuel pressure). I dont think it is the cas sensor because you said you got good spark.
Did you check spark on each cylinder bay.
I asked him about the inlet manifold gaskets and he said they were replaced 6 months ago,so I doubt its them, also it doesnt use any coolant.Theres fuel coming out the return fuel line,it flows at a good rate, but we havent been able to check the actual pressure. The exhaust is not blocked. When it does start for a few seconds, there plenty of gasses etc coming through it.He put another fuel filter in it,but theres still no difference.Im still leaning towards it being a fuel problem somewhere or the CAS which hes gonna change later today. Thanks everyone for the suggestions.I appreciate your time and input.Thanks.
It was the fuel pump, not enough pressure. Its the first one of these pumps that I have seen loose enough pressure to stop the car from running.Usually once these pumps stuff up,they wont even run, they just usually die..Ive replaced plenty of seized ones, but never for low fuel pressure.
