hi there, im changing motors in my vr s2, i baught a vn s2 with low kms thinking it would fit but have discovered the vn motor doesnt have a cam sensor, it has a spot ready for it but no sensor, does thr vn s2 come with the magnet on the sprocket ready for the future line say vr s2? im going to change the timing covers but theres no point if i need to change sprockets and timing chains as my vr motor is stuffed due to rooted cam. cheers any input would be apreciated
can anybody help me![]()
Just looking through the VP V6 gregorys manual, and the pics show no cam angle sensor fitted ,and theres no mention of it either in the text,so Id say the VN S2 didnt get the cam angle sensor either. Also it shows a pic of the camshaft sprocket, and it shows theres the hole in it for the pickup magnet to go into.
Can't you just stick the magnet onto the VN motor?
Only the VR onwards will have the magnet because VN/VP injectors fired all at once. VR onwards the injectors fire at different times, which is what the magnet controls.
when u change the timing cover change over the cam sprockets as well an ull be sweet . Cheers
At 43 a wealth of info , but still heaps to learn
Im pretty sure the ecotec (VS) had the first sequential injection system used on the V6..
im buying a timing cover so i dont have to pull 2 motors apart, my cam gear in my vr engine is rooted, dont want to spend hours pulling it apart to find teeth on the sprocket stuffed thus why i was aking if they had it ready for future as the timing cover on the vn has a spot for the cam sensor just not machined out.. vn s2 throught to vr s1 are all the same motor.. vr s2 had the cam sensor added. can you buy the magnets? and how would i affix it to the sprocket? cheers
The magnet comes in a little plastic cage thing which sort of clips into the camshaft sprocket hole.Ive seen them actually come out of the sprocket,it happened on my VS.$80 for the new magnet from holden plus all the trouble of removing the timing cover etc to find the old magnet and to fit the new one..Ive since seen that in the USA some people glue them into the sprocket hole as they can work loose and came out of the sprocket like mine did.I would have glued my new one in as well if Id known about this at the time.
thanks mate makes my day alot better.. how long did it take you to get the timing cover off?
Around an hour maybe, but I took my time with it and followed the gregorys manual just to make sure I didnt miss or forget anything.
the motor is still out so hopefully less, il ring holden tomorrow and see what i can stick it with aswell thanks mate...
yeah getting a second hand one from the wreckers been priced $100 for timing cover off a backyard wrecker but reckon i can get cheaper
got timing cover, camshaft sprocket and chain for $90 pretty good i think![]()
laughen , chuck her on
