hey all my vs has been running like shit recently missing sputtering no power after i have changed leads spark plugs fuel filter and new oil and air filter cleaned maf and still no difference.. i noticed i was leaking oil onto the right exhaust manifold and that combinded with the miss i figured must be the head gasket so yesterday started the pull down and changed both head gaskets and inlet manifold gaskets rocker cover gaskets all of them. but still missing no oil leak now tho i can think only one thing that it must be the coil pack .. i noticed when i had my heads off two of the valves looked alot brighter in color and had no carbon deposits on them.. could these be the cylenders that havent been firing??
any how i noticed when reassembling the accessories that one of the three coil packs had been changed because the numbers didnt match up eg: had two 1&4 labled coil packs .
how can i test my coil packs ?? i have just removed the leads and watched them arch should i just look for an inconsistancy or what ?
any help would be much appreciated
cheers
Its best to get a known working coil and try it in the 3 places where yours are.Just drive it each time ,and if theres a difference in how it runs, then theres your problem. Its best to replace all 3 coils at the same time, they slowly loose their performance over time anyway. Its best to use genuine holden coils or MSD brand etc,not "cheapies" off ebay. You can test these coils with a multimeter, but Ive seen them show up ok on a multimeter, and still cause misfiring,so it cant be trusted, even if the coils readings show its fine..(I keep a spare new coil, just for testing purposes)Also you say you removed the leads and watched them spark, usually if a coil is stuffed,it will not fire consistantly,it will miss throwing a spark every now and then, thats usually a good sign that the coil is stuffed too.New replacement coils dont have the cylinder numbers marked on them, only the original ones first fitted to the car at manufacture do.
thanks heaps mate for a good and in depth reply much appreciated and very useful info thanks a million =]
No worries mate, let us know how you get on with it..Cheers.
While its running pull the injector wires off 1 by 1 and see which cylinder it is
ok so problem is solved!
i replaced coils and still no difference i was about to spit my shit completely because its just cost me too much and i thought the only thing i havent changed is the injectors .. SO
my mate had a spair set of vt injectors and so i started pulling mine out and there was the problem
Injector 4&2 were completely blocked with shit on the inlet/fuel rail end and after i swapped the injectors ran amazing so problem finally fixed
Thanks everyone on here for your help !!
if they were blocked put a new fuel filter on there FOR THE LOVE OF GOD~!
new fuel filter was put in less than 4 weeks ago
