Auto or manual? If its auto, the trans will bolt up to the engine, but check the number of electrical connector pins in the transmission wiring connector, some have 12 pins-usually VR models or 4HDD type, others have 13 pins -usually VS models or 5HDD or 6HDD type, and they arent interchangable as far as I know because of the different number of wiring connector pins,so be sure to check the connectors pins before fitting it up...

Im pretty sure that as long as the electrical connector has the same amount of pins ,the trans will fit.

You've probably burnt/distorted the clutches - check your trans oil and it probably will be brown/black and smell burnt. Sometimes an oil and filter change/flush will fix this problem temporarily and will cost about $80 DIY, whereas changinbg the trans is hard work unless you have a hoist. As Brett says, if the pins match, the ser 1 trans should be OK.
