Hey guys, just got back from a camping trip on which we took my mates VR Wagon down and was just wanting some comparisons on fuel economy stats. His is a Buick V6 Manual with an untouched motor.
He managed to get 650km out of 1 tank with 70% of the tank being used on the motorway, roughly 10.2L/100km.
How does that measure up to everybody elses experiences with the buick V6?
Only a rough estimate, but I got around 630k's out of a tank in my VP driving home from a holiday in QLD. Fully loaded up plus mrs and 2 kids. Was happy with that for a $600 car that I've hardly had to touch except to service it.
From The Mrs VR see gets roughly 650kms a tank and that consists of Freeway and a bit of start stop traffic. Highest i have seen it is 700 before the fuel light came on, What i hate is i Have a VX V6 and i can only get 700km to tank. VR- 63ltr tank, VX 75ltr. :-( lol
just out of interest how much does it cost to fill the tank on a vr these days ,ive been on gas for ages and want to compare the cost of gas compared to petrol for a v6.
No word of s lie I used 1/4 of a tank from rocky to brissy 740kms at 115km/h
This is what they got when brand spanking new:
Fuel Urban (l/100km) 12.0 Fuel Extra Urban (l/100km) 7.6 Fuel Combined (l/100km) 9.2
So 10.2l/100km after 16 years ain't too bad.

Theres no way you could get 700 km on 16 litres of fuel, thats under 3 litres per 100 km or over 80 mpg. They are lucky to get 6 litres per 100 km or 40 mpg.Even when new these cars (V6) got around 7km per 100km or 33 mpg on the highway, and around town, they got around 12 litres per 100 km or 19 mpg.
hard to tell??? i minutes fuel is $1.18 a ltr and then it shot up to $1.38.99 per ltr within 2days( why its so high i have no idea as the oz doller is at a all time high?) to answer you quetion i pay about $83 to $90 for a full tank DEPENDING IF I USE the coles 8cent petrol discount voucher plus another 4cents off for having a coles gold card so with the both vouchers im able to get an extra 12 cents off per ltr,i wait till the best time of the week and i get the wife to follow me & the maloo down in my vt and we fill them both with a total of 100 ltr divided between both( 100 ltrs thats the max you can use on any 1 fuel fill up) so when i use my vouchers i always get 100ltrs of fuel and save 100 x 12cents at a saving of $12(or $12 of free fuel. depends on how you want to look at it lol ? im happy to say i got $12 of juice for free lol)
best wishes
the vouchers work even better with lpg ( not that i have lpg) but if lpg is 60cents a ltr the vouchers take it down to 52cents ltr or in my case with the extra 4cents on top of the 8cents its down to 48cents per ltr ( ive filled up a mates work ute on lpg many times) chherrrrrs
We ALL HAVE 1 THING IN COMMON:THE RELENTLESS PURSUIT OF GRIP
I can get to Townsville from Mackay on less then half a tank. Pretty happy with that. Wasn't easy driving either.
Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like
It's 388km......never believe your fuel gauge! This would mean you could do the return trip without refilling.

I recently did a 3100 km trip from Perth to Coral Bay. Fuel consumption calculated after each fill-up was 8.23 L/100 km, 9.7 (a bit of short running during a week at Kalbarri), 8.49, 8.6, 8.48, 8.51 and 8.86. Since being home it has been 10.45 and 12.14. In my previous car, a VR Lexcen which I owned since new, I had a complete fuel record:
Distance travelled: 203935 km
Fuel used: 21,054 litres
Fuel cost: $18,296.79
Average fuel consumption: 10.32 l/100 km
I get about 300 ks to a tank in the vn... Hopefully the statesman I just bought is going to be better
In my old VN I drove from Adelaide to Mildura, reset the trip computer before I left and took it pretty easy. Ended up around 7.3L/100km from memory.
