Jumped in the car the other day turned the key and all i hear is 2 clicks or clunks that are pretty loud, check the battery check the fuses and all other stuff.
so decide its the starter motor which wont turn, take out the extractors and remove the starter motor connect it to a battery out of the car and it turns so the starter motor works, put it back in the car and it doesn't work, check the volts going to the starter motor and its close to 13V which is normal.
try to hot start it directly from the battery to the starter motor and doesn't work.
does anyone have any suggestions as to what it could be or what i could do?
obviously it turns when on the battery but under load it's not getting the amps it needs to turn so it's obviously worn out, obviously you can crank the engine by hand so it's not that preventing it starting?
so a new starter motor would be the go?
well if the engine cranks over by hand then it should be the starter as you tried it straight off the batt.
How did you test the starter off the car? - did the solenoid pull the pinion out when you powered it or did you connect the hot wire straight past the solenoid to the starter - if so it could be dirty contacts in the solenoid.
