Bit hard to try explain without pics etc, but from memory to fit the bar to the seat you need to slightly compress/squeeze in the ends of the bar where it fits to the seat frame so its in tension. There should be some locating dowels and then a circlip to stop it coming back off. As a temporary measure, you should be able to fit the bar without the circlip and carefully move the seat position enough so you can get the seat back out to fix it.
