1996 VS Questions

Gday guys,

Just bought a vs not too long ago to replace my old vr. Now im going crazy trying to figure out what exactly the badge on it is. It was sold as a series 2 executive but Its got an S pac badge on the dash. The things been totaly de-badged and repainted on the outside so im at a loss. Any way i can find out?

Also im trying to find out if i have a T5 or Getrag gearbox. Is there any easy way to find out apart from ripping the gearbox out and checking the flywheel? I only ask because i just bought a memcal upgrade for a getrag assuming it wasnt T5

The Getrag is hydraulic clutch.The T5 is cable operated clutch.Have a look near the brake master cylinder under the bonnet to see if theres a clutch fluid reservoir there somewhere.If there is,its a Getrag box.

check your badge in engine bay for option codes, M34 and M35 is Getrag M78 Standard Manual and M30 is 4speed auto. A9D is S pack auto and A9E is S Pack Manual

Yeah mate found it, thanks for that aye. Its a getrag, still trying to find out what badge it is though cant seem to find the option code for it. At least not the S pack option code.

Body number is L93 if thats of any help

it will be a VSK in the VIN number if it's an exec, then the extra option codes if it has s pac which it doesn't so someones just swapped the dash badge over perhaps.

wHy would the memcalbe different for different manual gearboxes ? Is the manual box even connected to the ecu ?

Its the VSS between the manual boxes that are different, requiring a separate PCM/tune

the paint looks smick,,,,i do like white >>> maybe the badge was put on after market or some 1 was down the wreckers and shiftied a spac badge of a wreck ? from what i know all spac came out with an lsd so take a look see at your diff as well.....shes a smicko ride champ my 16 yo would kill if i got him somthing like that for his 1st car? plent of ppl swap the badges seen it done withh ss badges and maloo badges,lol and other badges(shame my maloo wasnt white.(no my maloo is red like santas bl oo dy slay).......

Yeah just checked the diff then wheel spins in the other direction so no LSD. VSK in the vin so its an exec. Shame. Oh well ^_^.

Yeah id kill if that was my first car aswell haha. My first was a 1980 5 sp Nissan pulsar. Then got off my learners and got a auto vr had that until some lancer driving twit decided my back end looked too pretty. He came out worse off though pushed my boot in a little bit but his engine was sitting in his lap lol.
