Hey everyone searching every where talked to heaps of people and at the end of my tether.
i have just purchased a Vs 5ltr ute and a strange thing is happening.
Firstly car struggles to start cranks 6-7 times before firing up sometime taking up to 12 times and does this weather hot or cold.
Secondly the even weirder thing i will be driving along go to accelerate out of right hand corners eg round-a-bouts the engine dies till you take you foot off the accelerator then place it back on lightly and goes fine again.
and the last thing is that is really seems to struggle above like 3k rpm like it wants to go but just has nothing.
have checked error codes and comes back fine, Spark plugs and leads are new too
Hope you can help and many thanks in advance
Sean

Start by checking for any set ECU error codes.Heres a link that shows you how to do this simple test.
---Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised)---
It could be anything from an air restriction, fuel pump pressure bleeding off or a dodgey coil lead etc. My first thing to check would be the battery terminals (I always do, you would be surprised how many problems start at the battery terminals),
check battery and it looks all good coil lead seems ok the only replaced recently. Checked the codes just spat back a 12. So frustrating as it doesnt die on a straight or left hand turn only right but it seems to go like shit compared to my last vs. Ashamed to say i think my mrs sirion goes harder then it ATM.
it also seems to hunt when coasting at speed
Id replace the fuel filter next, and if no difference, then check the fuel return line inside the fuel tank. Some bodgey mechanics just snap off the in tank return line when they replace the fuel pump, as this return line can be difficult to remove and refit from inside the tank..This can cause problems as the return line feeds the swirl pot, which is where the fuel pump pickup is located,so its probably starving for fuel under acceleration and around corners. If the return line is connected and ok.Then it could just be a faulty fuel pump.Check out the pics in this link of the pump and swirl pot,its a sedan tank, but the basic setup, the swirl pot etc, is pretty much the same for utes too.It shows the swirl pot,and how the pump sits inside it,the return line feeds back into this swirl pot.

hey brett fuel filter was changed couple days ago so i will check out that return line tomorrow
cheers everyone for replies. Hope it turns out to not be a big thing
sounds like my old ute that had a blocked pickup in the tank from all the rust, when i turned it was ok cause the rust went somewere else lol...
It's booked in to mechanic on Thursday checked all the above and everything seemed fine so I'm lost
it sounds to me like fuel, especially if its only on right hand turns and your pick up is on that side
does it do it with a full tank of fuel as well
replace the fuel pump, my 5L vs sedan did the same thing too and was the fuel pump nackered.
96 VS ute, L36 Auto.
Pacies, 2" catback, 18" RJR Shaddows
No more V8'S, GT35 TO GO ON SOON
as you were saying. trouble to start. id get it checked out.
possibly a starter motor problem. mechanic told me that are sorta common on vs's
or it might be a voltage drop. alternator or battery. im betting starter motor though
Filled her up today then couldn't get her to do it again till it had drunk about 1/4 tank not doing it again seems the lower the fuel the worse it is today before filling up couldn't even turn right at a steady gentle acceleration without it doing it.
typical swirl pot/fuel return issue in the tank do a search theres many results on this very issue
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable
So went to the mechanic yesterday. Turns out the return line was fine and connected but that's about all that was fine lol.
Person who owned it before me must have changed the fuel pump and while doing so snapped one of the bolts that hold it in the tank. So in all of his wisdom put a #### load of silicon in the tank to seal it completely only prob was bits had obviously dissolved and come away blocking the pickup bits made it inside the pump and the internal filter.
Some people should just never touch a tool in their life
I had the exact same problem mate, was a shagged fuel pump
