Default 1994 vr commodore executive knock in motor.

just bought a 1994 vr commodore executive when u start it up has a real metallic knock to it how ever when u rev it or the engine is showin high revs its dissapears. a mate of mine said it could be lifters, im hopin its not bearings. while its idling u hear the metallic knock. whats your opinion. what are symptoms of bearing damage and lifter damage. if big end bearings etc are stuffed will it blow smoke form exhaust etc. this is my first commodore. Thanks for nay advice or feedback

Could very well be a bearing mate.
    Perhaps low oil pressure too?

Check the pressure, you might be able to save it by replacing the oil pump.

It'll be the bearing knocking, but whether its knocking because its rooted or because the oil pump is giving up is the question.
If it improves with RPM good chance its the pump.

It sounds like the oil pump isnt pumping the oil fast enough, but once the oil has covered all the components the noise stops.Get the pump checked but in the mean time use a heavy duty oil

pump is part of the front timing cover and will very rarely cause any issues I.E never LOL. the pick up in the sump can become clogged with gasket goo and other foreign debris causeing low oil pressure.so many things can make a knock noise it could be anything does the noise get faster with revs

pull the injector plugs off one by one untill it stops knocking at idle
if it doesn't stop its not a bearing.

If it is blowing smoke then it could be the piston and rings, the tapping noise would be the lifters,it sounds like the motor is worn out,how many k's are on it?

213000 km, no the vehicle is not blowin any smoke at all. its just a loud knock on engine start and idle, once u rev it and get the revs up it dissapears. few close friends of mine have said lifters as the noise dissapears with revs. always serviced and maintained by a old lady, one owner vehicle since new, always garaged

I had the same noise on one of my cars and I just let it go,then one day as I was driving the noise got worse and louder.I then took it to my mechanic he took the covers off it and found one of the lifters had bent, what it looked like was one of those drinking straws that you can bend.He replaced the damaged lifter and the noise was no longer there.

It'll remove some force off the piston, if its a dead bearing it wont knock any more.

Yes you put them back on after you test it. You don't pull it out, you just take the electrical connector off.

The car made it to the mechanics but I had to drive it slowly and it sounded like a vw beetle it felt like it was running on 1 cylinder.

im goin with the idea of harmoic balncer even tho the old owners told me they not long replaced it. they said they were sellin the vr cheap as they couldnt be bothered to spend money on the engine knock. im ruling big end bearing out as what i have read on the forum, cause the noise dissapears when u rev it, only at idle u hear this knock. im guessing harmonic balancer.
