My dad decided to give me his 1997 VS Commodore for my 16th birthday. It has driven less then 5,000kms in the last 2 years. He was the second owner of the car and has had it since 1999. About 5-6 years ago he decided to put gas in it. When he gave it too me it wasn't in the best condition, but my project is to fix it. I decided to change the injectors because it was idling rough on petrol. I changed the injectors 3 days ago but it didn't turn out well. When I turned the car on it seemed to have the same problem, yet when I pushed the accelerator it had no power, so it was actually worse with the new injectors. I turned the car off, then went to start it again. This time it wouldn't turn on. I put the head lights on and tried to start it, but the lights turned off when I did this, so I figured the battery would be flat. I got a new battery, yet I have the same problem. When I go to turn the car on now, random lights flash on the dash, and when I put the high beams on the speedo needle goes up to 40km/h and drops back down. My dad keeps on telling me to take it to work (because I work at Kmart Tyre and Auto) but the whole point of taking this car was so that it could be my own project and I could learn more about cars by fixing it. I have no idea why the car is playing up, so all your help would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers.
I would be checking error codes first , sounds like you might have knocked something when you put the injectors in
if you post up the error codes you get, and more detail of what you removed and replaced to do the injectors you have more chance of getting help here. It would be quite a coincidence for the battery to suddenly give it up 3 days after you decided to change the injectors. More likely you have disturbed or forgotten to reconnect something in the process.
i would be empting the tank as the fuel would be very stale, get some fresh juice. i would say the leads would have deteriorated too
as others have said, post up your error codes.
G'day check all your earth leads it sounds like you have missed /knocked something when you put the injectors in
Jon
I'll check the error codes tomorrow morning and post them up.
Also I've already put new fuel in, its just the part where the dash is flashing random things that is getting me confused...
I don't know what I would have touched to cause this.
Ate ur injectors clipped in properly and is the wirin to them done properly

+1 for checking your battery terminals, earth points and power cable to main fuse box.
if your headlights are cutting out when you go to crank it, you've got a power related problem.
thats the alternator sense wire. should still start with it broken, the battery just won't charge.
everything else seem ok? including the main earth to the left of the battery?
Check the body earth next to the battery that bolts to the inner gaurd. This has given me strange problems like you described...
Dude change that terminal while you have it off lol , thats like all corroded and what not . there like $10 at super shit and etc
Just fixed this so called alternator sensor wire. Car has turned on and is running a lot better with the new injectors, just idling a little lower then I would like. Is there a guide on tuning your car anywhere?
Cheers.
idle speed is not something you can change without getting the program in the computer changed.
give the throttle body a clean out might help a bit if its noticeably low.
I've cleaned the plenum chamber and the throttle body so that shouldn't be the problem. Also I just bought a new battery, so that also can't be the problem.
Sounds like the fuel pump... but it could be a million things!

I dont think you can change the idle speed they are factory set
Idle speed is set by the ecu. You can't tune your own car as all tuning is done by the ecu. Change your TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) and maybe your MAP (Manifold Absoulte Pressure sensor) Give your Throttle body a clean as well.
If it's not a Symptom its not relevant, and if its not relevant I don't care!
