I have a vr v6 auto and have been having major drama's with it.Its got over 400000 ks on it.Ive replaced crank angle sensor, injectors, fuel pump. The car will not start sometimes and the only way to get it started is to hold the excellorater to the floor.Starts running plues of smoke come out the exhaust and it smells like unburnt fuel.Ive taken the car to Holden dealership a got a computer dyo and there is a drama with the key lock barrel could this be the problem some people think it is and others dont HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!!![]()
If the car has fuel injection then you shouldnt hold the peddle to the floor that will flood the car.And if Holden said that its the key lock barrel why not get a new one?If its blowing lots of smoke then the piston and rings are gone.Have you checked the starter motor?
Id check the fuel pressure regulator. These are a common cause of problems similar to yours. They wear out and can leak fuel into the inlet manifold, this fuel then floods the engine, which causes the hard starting and the black smoke from the exhaust. And with most fuel injected cars,if the throttle is held flat to the floor while the engine is started,it will put the ECU into "clear flood" mode, which stops the injectors from firing fully so a flooded engine can be cleared of excess fuel and started...
+1 for the Fuel pressure regulator.
I reciently had to do mine, as i had the same problem after a batch of extreamly bad fuel with metal shavings in it!
Thanks for the advise Brett_jjj that sounds like it could be the problem...
