I have a cross thread on the cooler pipe and was wondering if it was a standard thread?
could I pick up an adapter from supa cheap?
is the thread stuffed on the radiator or the hose or both? Not sure if you can buy it separate.
I am changing my Radiator for a new one off ebay it has screw connectors or push in connectors (Vs series 2 or series 1 push in). When I took the old fittings off they were very hard to get off and had probably been cross threaded. Anyway I managed to shear one off the Radiator trying to get it tight. I have since unscrewed the stub of the old adaptor. I was hoping I can buy a new adapter but even if I can I will have to try to tart up the bit which is retained on the pipe. what would happen if I used some thick rubber pipe and converted the whole thing to be like the VR? (push on,i still have the adapter for them for this radiator)would this work, or is my series 2 tranny operating at higher pressure?
At present I am probably up for another new Radiator as well as new fittings for the ends of the pipes
I would suggest buying a large Tranny cooler and bypassing the radiator all together as;
1. this will help keep the car cooler and,
2. Problem would be solved.
hope that helps.
They are standard fittings. When I replaced my radiator, the guy at the shop gave me a couple for free. If you have 1 good, you could try a fastners/bolts/nuts place etc to get another.
If you do fit a tranny cooler, it still should be hooked up through the rad before going to the external tranny cooler.

why? the whole idea of a big tranny cooler is so you dont need to, plus it saves the hassle of if the core splits and puts coolant through your box, id rather not. But im interested in why.
I read somewhere that the radiator also get the oil up to working temp quickly so it is actually a heater and cooler.
Nobody has really answered whether I can use the 2 good pipe fittings (push on hose) and convert to hoses so it would be like a vn or vr
this is a much cheaper option than buying a new fitting and a new hose with a crimped fitting on the end of that.
I only use this car as a commuter to work what would happen if I miss out the cooler and bolt the pipes together?
Series 1 used push on with hose clamps, series 2 used the screw on's, either way will work so go for it.
Ive logged tranny temps with various methods, rad only runs 100c+ deg oil temp, rad and cooler runs 90c and cooler by itself sits stable at 75c all doco's ive seen say best tranny life for 4L60E is when you run it at 80c
I run a pwr cooler for a v8 it works a treat i run it through the raidiator first
tuning done by THE1 A+++++ tuner
And powering it by MACE
Build it to handle the MANG
strated the job today,I tried to get the hoses out of the tranny cooler and completely stuffed it! it is so delicate and the fittings are so strong. so I ended up going to the wreckers they had a VTcooler which is not quite the same set up and an early vs which has the push on fittings. Even they said they always leave the pipes in the cooler as they cannot get them out without wrecking them either. I ended up having to get Enzed to modify my screw fittings from the tranny to push on fittings but now everything is the same gauge and a push on fit.
thanks for all the advice. The moral of the story is if you thing you are going to strip it stop and try something else!
as my mate always says " strip it, then back it off half a turn"
